Omaha Public Power District Senior Market Research Specialist in Omaha, Nebraska

The Senior Market Research Specialist is responsible for consulting with business partners and then designing, conducting, and analyzing market research studies to support the utility's strategic planning, product development and overall customer engagement efforts. This role may work independently and/or with vendors on projects and is ultimately accountable for identifying insights and consulting with business partners about how to understand and use results. This role must stay up to date on both existing and emerging research techniques as well as overall utility industry trends and dynamics.

  • Responsible for primary (including qualitative and quantitative) and secondary research activities to provide information for management decision-making.

Research includes performance measurement/customer satisfaction; demand analysis; design and pricing strategy development for new and existing products; internal process improvement and advertising awareness.

Benchmark OPPD customer perceptual data against other electric utilities and over time.

Prepare research plans based on known research needs and objectives.

Conduct research in alignment with budget considerations.

  • Consult with internal decision makers to identify the business decisions to be made and design appropriate research methodologies utilizing proper sampling theory and appropriate multivariate statistical techniques.

Analyze data using appropriate statistical tests.

Interpret findings and make recommendations for action based on research findings.

Support administration of ad hoc customized research.

Provide on-going tracking processes to measure performance of day-to-day service provision and responsibility for OPPD's corporate customer satisfaction performance metric.

Monitor changes in technologies, competitive intelligence and industry developments that may impact existing and potential future programs. Brief leadership on the impact of the activities.

  • Build relationships with internal clients and external vendors.

Utilize communication and report writing skills to effectively communicate findings, conclusions, and business implications to facilitate optimal client decision making.

Pre-qualify, select, and manage vendors to assure timely and cost-effective data collection.

Establish timeframe demands between clients and vendors and negotiate timing and cost differences.

Manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Assist in the selection and development of a competent and effective staff in support of corporate strategic objectives.

  • Power Panel - Online research panels.

Manage OPPD Power Panels. Ensure that the residential and business panelists are engaged at a regular cadence,

Work with Panel host to manage member recruit and refresh.

Communicate research outcomes and insights to internal OPPD clients.

  • Voice of the District Platform (VoD)

Foster a continuous working relationship with VoD platform owners in Product Development & Marketing.

Achieve and maintain proficiency in using the VoD platform to conduct and analyze primary research including proper sampling, analysis and reporting techniques.

Provide research consultation to VoD power users within OPPD.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing and/or Business Administration or five (5) years of experience in a related field.

  • Experience in advanced research techniques including experimental design, analysis of variance, regression, tradeoff analyses such as choice models and conjoint analysis, data modeling and focus group moderation.

  • Strong analytical skills.

  • Leadership skills.

  • Presentation skills.

    Desired:

  • Advanced degree in Marketing, Research and/or Business-related area.

  • Knowledge of OPPD operations.

Work will be performed in a modern office environment amid normal conditions of dust, odors, fumes, and noises.

Must have the ability to: work on multiple tasks at one time; work under stressful situations; operate a computer and other office equipment; move about the Company and interact with all levels of the Company. Additional physical requirements include but are not limited to the following: Sitting at a desk for more than one hour at a time; keyboarding; ability to see information in print and/or electronically.
