Job Description:
Our site near Culpeper, VA, in beautiful, rural Orange County (1.5 hours from Washington, DC) is growing! This site is our center of excellence for Solid Rocket Motor Propulsion and Energetics development as well as high-complexity production programs.
Position will support Energetics and Propellant Development. A wide application of advanced principles, theories and concepts in the propulsion field with a working knowledge of other related disciplines, such as thermal, structural, and ballistics analysis. Develops solutions to unique or controversial problems which have an important effect on major company programs. Typically, incumbents will have contributed inventions, new designs or techniques which are of significance to the solution of complex technical problems.
Essential Functions:
Evaluate and implement tractable solutions to technical problems involving the utilization of chemistry and chemical analysis techniques.
Responsible for specifying chemical testing and evaluating data, providing chemical guidance and planning (technical), organizing (cost and schedule), and conducting technical projects covering a broad range of technical topics under the guidance of a Technical Project Lead (Technical Fellow or equivalent).
Develop, plan, and promote projects independently for the implementation of novel technical approaches and cutting edge technologies.
Consolidate results, prepare findings for reports.
Travel: 5%
Ability to obtain a US security clearance.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree with minimum 12 years of prior material process engineer experience. Graduate Degree with a minimum of 10 years of prior material process engineering experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 16 years of prior material process engineering experience.
Preferred Additional Skills:
Masters Degree or PhD preferred.
Degree in Chemistry, Material Science or related science and technical experience in the chemistry environment.
Knowledge of chemical principles, thermodynamics, polymer chemistry, structure/property relationships, kinetics, and data analysis is essential.
Experience with energetic materials, statistical analysis, programming, and experimental set-up and data acquisition is a plus.
Explosives theory, compositions, and modeling is a plus.
