Position Announcement

 

Utah Valley University is seeking a skilled professional to join its Digital Experience & Accessible Technology (DEAT) team, focusing on leading comprehensive usability testing initiatives. Collaborating with departments in DX, this role will plan, execute, and analyze a range of user research, including interviews, surveys, and observational studies, to gather actionable insights. The successful candidate will synthesize findings into data-driven reports and provide recommendations to cross-functional teams and executive leadership. As part of the User Experience Lab, this position will oversee the entire research process, ensuring that key insights are integrated into designs to enhance usability and improve overall user satisfaction.

 

Summary of Responsibilities

 

• Lead and conduct user research activities such as interviews, surveys, focus groups, and usability tests, documenting and organizing insights to guide design decisions. You'll employ advanced UX research techniques including A/B testing, card sorting, and feature enhancement assessments, using industry-standard tools to gather and analyze data. The position involves translating research findings into actionable recommendations, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and effectively communicating insights to stakeholders to drive user-centered product improvements.

• Participate in the analysis of qualitative and quantitative data to identify user needs, pain points, and behavior patterns. In collaboration with DEAT staff, collaborates with decision makers to identify questions, conduct analysis, and interpret findings. Works in collaboration with DEAT staff to facilitate the utilization of these data through both written and verbal communication; this includes presentations, executive summaries/briefs, data visualizations, reports, etc.

• Maintain lab environment. Oversee the setup, maintenance, and calibration of testing equipment and software in the usability lab.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

Graduation from an accredited institution with an Associate's degree or two years of related field experience.

 

Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities

 

• Familiarity with UX (user experience) research and UX/usability software such as facial coding and eye tracking.

• Knowledge and use of computer systems and software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Qualtrics, Tableau, and Power BI.

• Commitment to championing data-informed decision-making, practices, and professional development.

• Principled dedication to issues of privacy and compliance (including FERPA, HIPPA, etc.).

• Awareness of user-centered design principles.

• Knowledge of collaboration tools such as Figma, or Miro is advantageous

• Skills in conducting user testing and collecting data.

• Skill in effective visualization of data Ability to document research findings clearly and concisely.

• Foundational problem-solving skills and analytical thinking.

• Skill in verbal and written communication, both in informal and formal contexts.

• Attention to detail and clarity.

• Ability to work in a team environment and collaborate effectively.

• Ability to learn and adapt to new research methods and tools.

• Ability to support a project from inception through the design, implementation, and extraction/collection of data to the creation of the final report and presentation.

• Ability to be professional, competent, and cordial.

• Ability to collaborate within the department and with data stewards and clients outside he department.

• Ability to facilitate focus groups, collect and present both qualitative and quantitative data.

• Ability to facilitate the client's vision by researching, conceiving, sketching, prototyping, and user-testing experiences for digital products.
