Description
Burns & McDonnell is seeking a Staff Roadway Engineer to join our rapidly growing Transportation Practice in our Florida office. Our ideal candidate will be someone with excellent interpersonal and communication skills who can work both independently and in a team environment.
In this position you will be a part of a skilled team that values everyone’s contributions to a project. Typical projects include but are not limited to municipal roadway design projects, multi-lane expressway and interstate projects, along with interchange projects of varying complexity.
Work with a multi-discipline team of engineers and technicians in the design and analysis of transportation projects as well as the contractors and construction staff on design/build projects.
Receives instructions from Project Managers or Senior Project Engineers as to the general results expected
Receives technical guidance on uncommon or complex problems with supervisory approval on proposed plans for projects.
Research design alternatives and provide findings to Senior Project Engineer.
Responsible for accuracy of engineering design and plan production is thorough and follows through on assigned tasks and is efficient conformance with standards, budgets, and schedules.
Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending workshops, reviewing professional journals/publications, establishing professional networks, and participates in professional societies.
Perform varying components of roadway design including the development of horizontal and vertical alignments, development of typical sections, drainage and hydraulic analysis, development of erosion control plans, tabulation of project quantities and opinion of cost, and general plan production.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in an engineering field, preferably in civil or with an emphasis in transportation engineering.
Minimum of 3 years related experience in a variety of engineering projects. Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering may be substituted for 1 year experience.
Candidate must be a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or on track and planning to take the PE exam.
Ability to work as a part of a multi-discipline team.
Strong communication skills (both verbal and written) and presentation skills.
Strong computer skills in the Microsoft Office package of software.
Ability to perform under pressure and tight deadlines while working on multiple projects concurrently.
Knowledge of transportation design standards including AASHTO design guidelines
Knowledge of transportation engineering software including Bentley MicroStation, InRoads and/or Geopak and OpenRoads.
Experience working with municipal agencies and State Department of Transportations
Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.
