Statement of the Job:

In support of the Office for Diversity and Inclusion’s commitment to supporting University of Maine students from historically underrepresented and intersectional identities, including but not limited to: sexuality, race, gender identity, spirituality, ethnicity, ability, religion, nationality, socio-economic status, and others. The Coordinator for the Office for Diversity and Inclusion position will develop and implement programming to better serve the needs of students with marginalized identities. Additionally, the Coordinator creates opportunities that provide awareness and education to the entire university community around issues of equity, diversity, inclusivity and privilege. The coordinator will directly supervise the Graduate Assistant for Training, Education, and Outreach. Together, along with the Director for Diversity and Inclusion, these positions are responsible for working with other University departments to contribute to the University’s overall goal of ensuring that all students experience a sense of belonging as a valued part of our university community. Typical hiring range for this 11-month work year (January 15-December 15th) position is $41,250 commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s preferred in Higher Education, Counseling, College Student Personnel, or related field strongly preferred.

  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and cultural competency.

  • Experience and strong desire to work with students with intersecting identities.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrated knowledge regarding the concerns and issues of diverse identities in students in college.

  • Must have experience in creating and implementing programs.

  • Supervisory experience.

  • Excellent leadership, organization, management and administrative skills.

  • Must have a caring and compassionate student-centered philosophy.

  • Ability to think critically, problem solve, and make sound decisions.

Preferred:

  • At least one year of experience working with college students.

  • Demonstrated experience in DEI competencies.

  • Demonstrated experience in advocating for inclusion and equity.

  • Demonstrated experience in student group advising.

  • Demonstrated success in program development and planning large-scale events.

  • Ability to develop and maintain professional and collaborative relationships with faculty/staff, students, parents, and community members.
