Statement of the Job:

The Coordinator has responsibility for programming, advising, mentoring, supporting and providing education for students and campus through events with a focus on first-year students. This position plays a key role in developing and implementing large-scale campus events, late night programming, educational programs, and theme weeks at the University of Maine. Close working relationships and collaboration with student leaders, with colleagues in the Division of Student Life, and across campus are integral to the work of the coordinator. This is a high-energy position requiring a keen sense of student needs and the ability to act in the short term, yet think and plan for long-term growth and success. Evening and weekend work is essential to the success of this position. Typical hiring salary for this position is $45,000 commensurate with qualifications and experience. This position is offered as either a 12 or 11-month work year, to be determined at time of hire. Prorated salary for 11-month work year is $41,250.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Typically has the education associated with a bachelor’s degree in education, student personnel, education administration, or other related field and a minimum of two years’ experience in college student development, organizational development, college student programming, fraternity and sorority affairs, and/or leadership or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Experience with large-scale programming and community engagement. Demonstrated creativity, self-motivation, student-centeredness and sensitivity to all aspects of diversity. Prior work experience on a college campus.

  • Strong organizational and communication skills (both oral and written).

  • Outstanding collaborative skills and strategic thinking. Superb technological knowledge and skills (e.g., database and web site development, familiarity with social media platforms, etc.).

  • Demonstrated cultural competence and experience working in and fostering a diverse and inclusive student environment.

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in higher education, student personnel, or education administration.

  • Previous work with and direct advising of events and student organizations on a college campus.
