JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for dynamic, strategic and results driven HR professional to join our team in the role of  Human Resources Business Partner.

Reporting into the Senior Manager, Human Resources, the  HR Business Partner  is responsible for providing strategic advice and operational support to the business in a wide range of HR subjects including workforce planning and organizational design, succession planning, ED&I, interpretation and administration of collective agreements, policies and procedures, employee, and labour relations, change management, compensation, attraction and retention strategies and talent management.

Through building effective business relationships with clients, employees, union representatives and our HR Centres of Expertise (CoE), the HR Business Partner delivers value added service, developing business specific solutions to HR related topics.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Translate business needs into integrated HR solutions, providing strategic advice to leadership across various levels in the organization;  

  • Utilize HR data to identify and report on trends and emerging issues.  Gather statistics, complete studies, analyze and prepare reports on a variety of HR issues or procedures.   Deliver presentations on results, as necessary;

  • Coach, consult and collaborate with line management to ensure balance in meeting their business and resource objectives while aligning HR’s functional strategy;

  • Provide expert consultation, advice, guidance, and services in areas of; change management, organizational design, job evaluation, compensation, and talent solutions, including related policies and procedures;

  • Help reengineer and integrate changes into OPG’s culture. Lead the planning and support line management with the implementation of culture and change initiatives at the client group level;

  • Contribute effectively to problem resolution in dealings with line management and unions, including participation in joint and tripartite meetings as well as mediations and arbitrations.

  • Partner and collaborate with internal HR CoEs to advance employee capabilities, to support the delivery of key performance measures aligned with OPG’s strategic direction and initiatives;  

  • Partner with Labour Relations and Ethics & Equity CoE to advise people leaders on collective agreements and employee relations matters;

  • Partner with Talent Management CoE to provide line management with advice and services related to the broad range of talent management activities including workforce planning, performance measurement, succession planning and leadership development;

  • Perform other duties as required.

EDUCATION

  • Post Secondary Education in Human Resources

  • CHRL designation an asset 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive human resources experience;  

  • Minimum of 5 years of strategic human resources experience as a HR business partner or HR Generalist.  Sound knowledge of human resources principals, and processes, must be able to provide strategic advice and operational support on a wide range of HR matters;

  • Minimum of 5 years of labour/employee relations experience in a unionized environment, must be able to advise on interpretation and administration of collective agreements and participate and manage through grievances;   

  • Industry experience in; utilities, energy, mining, manufacturing, construction, or public sector is preferred.

  • Experience in implementing programs and processes across business units;

  • Experience with workforce planning, staff planning, succession planning and employee development; 

  • Ability to leverage network of HR Centres of Expertise (CoEs) to deliver results to client groups;

  • Strong interpersonal skills, must be a trusted advisor with experience in building, shaping, and maintaining positive relationships and partnerships with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders (business unit leaders, line managers, colleagues, union representatives, etc.);    

  • Proven track record on delivering results, and the ability to work in a fast-paced changing environment while effectively managing and adapting to multiple changing priorities;

  • Ability to effectively lead, influence and motivate others; 

  • Strong problem-solving skills to address and overcome current and future challenges;

  • Experience implementing change management strategies

  • Broad conceptual, diagnostic, and analytical skills; ability to reach well grounded, independent conclusions and influence outcomes; 

  • Ability to quickly understand business processes and navigate organization and support systems to deliver results to client groups;

  • Ability to communicate effectively, possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, and strong facilitation, negotiation, influencing and presentation skill;

  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook);

  • Experience and solid understanding working with HRIS systems.  Experience with SAP and Success Factors is an asset;

  • Valid Ontario Drivers License in good standing, is necessary for this position; and

  • Willingness to travel within the GTA, as required.

The base salary range considers many factors including, but not limited to experience, education, and training, including any collective agreement requirements for union represented positions. It is not typical for the salary to be offered near the top of the range, and salary is dependent on numerous factors. For management roles, the base salary range does not represent the total compensation package. The total compensation package for regular full-time management roles includes pay-for-performance programs for annual and medium time periods.
