Reporting to the Director, Engineering, as the Manager, Infrastructure Engineering you will bring a combination of leadership, project management and technical experience to the Infrastructure Engineering team and be responsible for the proposal, design and implementation of civil and electrical infrastructure to meet Telesat’s needs. This will include development of and upgrades to Telesat’s facilities as well as developing and installing antenna systems and associated infrastructure for customers of Telesat’s satellite communication services.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Infrastructure Engineering team to design and oversee construction of Telesat and customer infrastructure including both retrofit of building facilities and development of green-field antenna sites

  • Support operations in troubleshooting of issues surrounding Telesat’s infrastructure

  • Coordinate with sales, operations and other engineering teams to understand project requirements and allocate appropriate resources for both pre-sales and post-sales activities

  • Manage budgets for projects carried out within your team

  • Support writing of proposals to customers requiring infrastructure development

  • Manage tender process for contractors bidding to carry out infrastructure development work

  • Provide mentorship to members of your team to grow their capabilities

  • Manage on-site implementation as required

Education & Experience Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical, civil or similar engineering discipline

  • Licensed as a professional engineer (P.Eng.) within Canada

  • 10 years of experience developing infrastructure solutions

  • 5 years experience managing projects and multi-disciplinary engineering teams

  • Experience with developing solutions for Canada’s Arctic is an asset.

  • Highly collaborative team player who can quickly earn the confidence of co-workers and teammates.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English, demonstrating that you have communicated effectively with management, engineering teams, and partners/suppliers.

Decision Making & Supervision

  • Supervise a team of approximately 5 engineers, CADD designers and installers.

  • Responsible for review of designs for technical soundness, and making key design decisions related to Telesat infrastructure development

  • Be a self-starter, able to act independently and make sound business decisions as Telesat's infrastructure expert

Working Conditions

  • Hybrid office work (3 days a week)

  • Occasional travel to Telesat and customer sites as required (both local and within Canada)

The successful candidate must be able to work in Canada and obtain clearance under the Canadian Controlled Goods program (CGP). Canadian government security clearance may also be required.
