About the role

Reporting to the Managing Director, Global Tax Accounting, the Senior Manager, Technical Tax Accounting will manage the Company’s global technical tax accounting function, which is responsible for the company’s processes centered around recognized and unrecognized income tax benefits (e.g. ASC 740-10, formally FIN 48, and similar local GAAP requirements) and income tax accounting for Accenture’s acquisitions, joint ventures and divestitures. The Senior Manager, Technical Tax Accounting will work extensively internally with Accenture’s cross functional finance, controllership and SEC reporting teams, and with the Company’s external auditors. A successful candidate will be a well-rounded tax professional with deep ASC 740 expertise and a full understanding of accounting principles and mechanics gained through experience or exposure to broad ranging tax and accounting topics.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Research complex technical tax accounting issues to determine proper treatment in accordance with U.S. GAAP;

  • Serve as a technical resource for the tax accounting team and as sist with the preparation of memoranda documenting analysis and conclusions;

  • Manage all aspects of income tax accounting and forecasting for Recognized and Unrecognized Tax Benefits (income tax reserves) under ASC 740-10, formerly FIN 48, (and similar local GAAP requirements) including, but not limited to, the following:

  • Serve as tax accounting expert regarding recognition and measurement of Accenture’s global tax positions;

  • Manage timeliness and ensure technical accuracy of quarterly reserves account movement, including forecast income statement impacts and cash tax impacts of tax controversy;

  • Ensure all recognized and unrecognized tax benefits are properly analyzed, supported, and documented, including current/non-current classification, interest and penalty calculations, consideration of the manner in which the position will be settled, including any indirect effects;

  • Collaborate with a team of regional tax accounting experts to develop and support conclusions regarding income tax reserves, including pre-acquisition risks recorded for acquired entities in purchase accounting;

  • Supervise the preparation of journal entries, detailed forecasts and other materials used for inclusion in the forecast of Accenture’s global Effective Tax Rate;

  • Prepare and/or review unrecognized tax benefit disclosures US GAAP audited financial statements;

  • Assist with external financial audits and reviews of income tax reserves;

  • Conduct or attend quarterly calls with Market Tax Directors, Tax Leadership and external financial auditors to discuss forecast updates to reserved positions;

  • Review supporting materials for internal controls to be executed by Market Tax Directors over the Recognized and Unrecognized Tax Benefits and ensure timely execution of these controls;

  • Review comprehensive tax accounting analyses of potential controversy outcomes;

  • Execute internal controls over the accuracy and completeness of reports and journal entries;

  • Conduct local income tax accounting training, as required, for the tax and country controllership groups.

  • Supervise, train and mentor other members of the team.

  • Manage all aspects of income tax accounting for Accenture’s acquisitions, joint ventures and divestitures, including, but not limited to, the following:

  • Serve as tax accounting expert while collaborating with Corporate Finance, Global and Country Controllership, and Area Tax;

  • Monitor acquisition pipeline for upcoming key transactions that could require significant tax accounting analysis;

  • Collaborate with a team of regional tax accounting experts to arrive at proper purchase accounting conclusions for tax positions;

  • Document tax accounting positions and oversee the purchase accounting for global business combinations: ensure all tax accounting positions for acquired entities are properly analyzed, supported, and documented, including current income taxes payable, inventory of temporary differences and deferred taxes and acquired tax attributes; evaluate the potential need for valuation allowances, unrecognized tax benefits, contingent tax liabilities and indemnification assets;

  • Collaborate with other tax accounting team members regarding post-merger integration steps impacting the effective tax rate and cash flow forecasts;

  • Assist with the preparation of tax accounting inputs to carve-out financials for divestitures, if necessary;

  • Manage quarterly tax internal controls covering acquisition accounting; maintain internal control narratives covering tax aspects of acquisition activity;

  • Assist with the external financial audits and reviews of tax issues for acquisitions and divestitures included in consolidated filings;

  • Research, draft and review technical tax accounting language to support tax purchase accounting entries for internal Accounting Treatment Memos (ATMs);

  • Review support for quarterly goodwill financial statement disclosure;

  • Review purchase accounting entry uploads to OneSource Tax Provision for annual provision cycle;

  • Conduct training on M&A tax accounting topics for members of the tax and controllership groups, as needed

  • Supervise, train and mentor other members of the team.

  • Assist with financial modeling and forecasting of various ad hoc scenarios;

  • Must enjoy working in a fast-paced environment with an ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Should be organized and work in a detailed manner, while fostering a collaborative, team environment.

  • Maintain a high level of technical expertise and current knowledge of US GAAP pertaining to tax accounting;

  • Identify, resolve and document tax positions and create procedures to drive value and efficiencies within the organization;

  • Proactive development of the tax team, technical skills, and tax financial reporting and controls to support a changing business environment;

  • Work cross-functionally to ensure proper tax reporting of significant transactions and events, continuous monitoring and evaluating of tax positions, development and support of financial statement audit process ;

  • Successfully transition tax accounting work to the Tax Operations Centers of Value in India.

The ideal candidate is an accomplished tax professional with unquestionable integrity, a positive reputation, and demonstrated success in previous roles. The Senior Manager – Technical Tax Accounting must have the ability to drive an agenda, lead at a rapid pace, and collaborate well within the company.

Basic Qualifications:

  • M inimum 7 years of Technical Tax accounting experience in a public accounting or corporate multinational role

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Track record of successfully managing a similar tax accounting function for a large-scale global corporation.

  • A strong knowledge base of accounting and income tax, significant experience in creating process efficiencies, and deep knowledge of US GAAP standard ASC 740, Accounting for Income Taxes, including expertise in ASC 740-10 and tax accounting for business combinations in a multinational corporate structure are essential.

  • Proven experience building and leading tax teams across a variety of tax disciplines. Successful coordination and collaboration with team members located in various countries with diverse cultures, time zones, and priorities is required.

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university; Chartered Accountant, CPA, and advanced degrees such as MBA, MS in Taxation strongly preferred. Experience with OneSource Tax Provision software and SAP also preferred.

  • Ability to operate comfortably in fast-paced management structure and capable of challenging in a balanced, constructive way, offering solutions and improvements.

  • Present and interact effectively at the senior leadership level.

Compensation at Accenture varies depending on a wide array of factors, which may include but are not limited to the specific office location, role, skill set, and level of experience. As required by local law, Accenture provides a reasonable range of compensation for roles that may be hired in California , Colorado, New York or Washington as set forth below.
