Tioga Opportunities Inc WIC Nutrition Assistant in Owego, New York

The WIC Nutrition Assistant assists with a variety of related services to support WIC program participants and staff; assists with planning, development, and implementation of outreach activities to increase WIC awareness and participation.

The WIC Nutrition Assistant position pays $15.50/hour. This is an on-site position, with Monday-Friday working hours that will correspond to the program needs.

The WIC Nutrition Assistant assists with a variety of related services to support WIC program participants and staff; assists with planning, development, and implementation of outreach activities to increase WIC awareness and participation.

The WIC Nutrition Assistant position pays $15.50/hour. This is an on-site position, with Monday-Friday working hours that will correspond to the program needs.

The WIC Nutrition Assistant job responsibilities include: Greets and assists walk-in clients, answers phones Screens and verifies applicants for income eligibility and updates household information Screens new clients, collects demographics, determines needs, and makes appropriate referrals within Tioga Opportunities, Inc. and elsewhere as needed Conducts program orientation, including explaining program benefits, issuing eWIC card, setting up WIC2GO and providing list of authorized vendors Schedules appointments and provides reminder notices Enters information into Central Intake System Contacts clients semi-annually to verify/update all information in Central Intake System Follows up on all no-show appointments with phone calls and/or late letters for rescheduling as soon as possible Responsible for distribution, completion and mailing of all voter registration forms to the appropriate state/local office as required Collects information for the nutrition assessment process, including obtaining anthropometric and hematological data, as trained Completes issuance of food packages that do not require medical documentation Provides referrals to health and social services, and document in participants record Assists Qualified Nutritionists in planning and evaluating participant-centered nutrition education (such as food demos, etc.) Provides additional program information on such topics as WIC benefits and the Farmers Market Nutrition Program Issues Farmers Market benefits to participants

Minimum Education and Experience: Graduation from High School or High school equivalency diploma OR Licensed Practical Nurse AND Experience working in the healthcare field, including volunteer experience OR experience with providing customer service and computer data entry, including volunteer experience

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Interpersonal skills to relate well with individuals of all socio-economic levels Good verbal and written communication skills Ability to work both independently and cooperatively with co-workers and other agencies in an effort to meet the goals and objectives of the program Ability to interpret and apply program regulations Well-developed organizational skills, ability to establish priorities, and to maintain accurate records Must have computer skills to perform efficiently in MS Office programs as well as Customer databases
