Emory Healthcare/Emory University Visiting Assistant Professor/Instructor of 19th Cent. Literature in Oxford, Georgia

Located 36 miles east of Atlanta on Emory’s original campus in Oxford, Georgia, Oxford College invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor or Visiting Instructor in Nineteenth-Century British Literature, to begin August 1, 2024. This is a one-year, benefits-eligible position with the possibility of renewal for up to two additional years based on performance, ongoing curricular need, and budgetary approval.

We welcome candidates with specializations in Romanticism or Victorian studies, especially those who approach literature through critiques of gender, race, and class, cultural histories, nineteenth-century natural or social science, archival or digital approaches to the field.

Position responsibilities include teaching six courses per year in literary and writing studies: survey courses of English literature, specialty courses in an author or theme relating to nineteenth-century British literature, Poetry, and possibly first-year writing. We especially seek candidates who will teach the courses as communication-intensive (https://oxford.emory.edu/academics/writing-and-communication-program.html) and who have experience in teaching undergraduate students. We value pedagogies intentionally designed to support a diverse student population and candidates interested in contributing to ongoing faculty conversations related to inclusive teaching.
