Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for an Electrical Engineer (Communications Hardware) or Principal Electrical Engineer (Communications Hardware) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within our Avionics Integration Engineering organization. This position will be located in Palmdale, CA.

This position supports the Communications and Payloads group within our Avionics Integration organization. Basic duties include performing engineering capture, build, integration, test, and maintenance of communications hardware in laboratory and field settings. This includes the specification and usage of specialized test and support equipment.

Essential Functions:

  • Design of rack-based communication, test, support equipment, and cabling to meet system requirements

  • Understanding and ability to perform electrical signal and power analysis at the rack level

  • Developing engineering drawings in accordance with ASME and IEEE standards, including rack assembly drawings, interconnect wiring diagrams, and custom cable assemblies

  • Developing Bill of Material to support build of systems

  • Specification of rack cabling (RF, optical, 1553, power) and cooling systems

  • Developing Acceptance Test Procedures and running ATP for score with QA

  • Installation of communication, test, and support equipment in lab and field environments

  • Providing lab, site integration, test, and maintenance support

  • Participate in troubleshooting systems to resolve complex issues, interact and coordinate with responsible communications engineers responsible for sustaining communication sub-systems

This position may be filled at either the Electrical Engineer (Communications Hardware Engineer) or Principal Electrical Engineer (Communications Hardware Engineer) level, depending upon the qualifications below.

Basic Qualifications for Electrical Engineer ( Communications Hardware):

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) related field with 2 years of relevant engineering experience; OR Master’s degree in a STEM field with 0 years of relevant engineering experience

  • Ability to travel up to 25%

  • Must have working knowledge of governing and industry standards to include MIL-STD-1553, MIL-STD-1760, MIL-STD-100G, and ASME Y14.100

  • Must be physically able to move up to 50 lbs

  • Must have color vision to identify cables and wires

  • Must have experience with drawing and release tools such as CATIA V5, Visio, and/or Teamcenter Enterprise PLM

  • Active in-scope DoD Secret clearance with the ability to obtain Top Secret (TS) once in position.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain initial Special Program Access (SAP/PAR). This SAP/PAR must be obtained prior to commencement of employment and must be obtained within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company to meet its business needs. (Of note: SAP/PAR will be upgraded once selected candidate is in role. Therefore, candidate must also be able to obtain and maintain upgraded SAP/PAR.)

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) related field with 5 years of relevant engineering experience; OR Master’s degree in a STEM field with 3 years of relevant engineering experience; OR a PhD in a STEM field with 0 years of relevant engineering experience.

  • Ability to travel up to 25%

  • Must have working knowledge of governing and industry standards to include MIL-STD-1553, MIL-STD-1760, MIL-STD-100G, and ASME Y14.100

  • Must be physically able to move up to 50 lbs

Preferred Qualifications for both levels :

  • Active in-Scope, DoD Top Secret clearance.

  • High attention to detail and emphasis on first time quality

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with an aptitude to learn new material quickly

  • Working knowledge of various communication protocols including Ethernet, 1553 bus systems and FibreChannel

  • Working knowledge of communication engineering theory and RF systems

  • Experience with production of complex systems

  • BS/MS/PhD in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering.

Salary Range: $87,200 - $130,800

Salary Range 2: $107,300 - $160,900

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
