Stanford Health Care QC Lab Supervisor in Palo Alto, California

The Stanford Blood Center is seeking a Quality Control (QC) Laboratory Supervisor to provide supervisory and administrative support for the QC department in an infectious disease testing laboratory.

Core Duties include:

  • Hire, train, coach, counsel, and determine disciplinary action in conjunction with HR as required; write and deliver performance evaluations, assign and manage workload for QC direct reports. Comply with C-I-Care rounding requirements and StandOut expectations. Develop monthly work schedule, maintain communication with personnel on all shifts, give direction, support and promote teamwork through CI Care and engagement surveys.

  • Oversee work flow, accurate and timely reporting of results by coordinating with intra and inter-departmental and research areas to ensure completion of test results. Accurately enter QC test results into computer and generates monthly QC tracking and trending statistics. Perform investigations of unsatisfactory QC and determine corrective action as required. Present results at QRA meeting and route results for review each month.

  • Evaluate and perform validations for new equipment and or software and processing such as Pathogen Reduction Technology and Hemacomply, including the development of applicable SOPs and training plans. Develop and monitor equipment preventative maintenance schedules.

  • Write, review and revise QC SOPs, training plans, and validation plans for QC. Determine the number and types of components for routine QC and/or validations each month, and interact with other Blood Center departments to procure appropriate products. Review QC staff calculations and perform testing as needed. Monitor QC results to ensure the correct number of units are tested each month.

  • Oversee orientation and training of new employees. Perform annual competency and maintain CAP proficiency. Monitor day to day compliance with policies and writes events as needed.

  • Attend Quality and Regulatory Assurance (QRA) meetings and manager meetings and represent the QC area.

Qualifications include:

BA or BS degree, 3-5 years’ laboratory experience, and a current Clinical Laboratory Scientist (MTA) license required. License must be maintained as valid at all times. Blood Banking experience and prior supervisor experience desired.

Other Relevant Information:

Will be required to comply with governmental regulations and Blood Center policy and strictly observe privacy and security related policies, procedures and practices to preserve the integrity and confidentiality of medical and other sensitive information pertaining to donors, patients, research subjects, and staff. May be required to enter areas where other individuals work with human blood; potential may exist for unanticipated exposure to bloodborne pathogens by splash or spill.
