Basic Function
The current vacancy is in the Parks and Recreation Department. The eligibility list created by this vacancy may be used to hire other vacancies in the department or County.
GOOD TO KNOW: Standard work hours are 6:30 am - 3:00 pm Monday - Friday and may require on-call service assignments.
This position will plan and participate in the maintenance and repair of ventilating, electrical, heating, air conditioning, plumbing, and refrigeration plant equipment; inspect old and new installations, and coordinate work orders.
Candidates with experience and expertise in the installation and maintenance of ice arena refrigeration systems (R-22, R-507, and ammonia) are especially encouraged to apply.
To plan and participate in the maintenance and repair of ventilating, heating, air conditioning, plumbing, and other mechanically operated equipment; to maintain and repair boiler, engine room, and refrigeration plant equipment; to inspect old and new installations; to coordinate work orders; and to perform related duties as assigned.

Examples of Work Performed
Remodel building interiors by reading blueprints, removing and building walls, sheet rocking, painting, varnishing, and maintaining doors and locks.
Perform general building maintenance by changing light fixtures and lamps, unclogging drains, installing plumbing, cleaning, stripping and waxing floors, painting and patching with cement or putty, and fixing broken windows.
Install and maintain equipment in heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems; replace motors, appliances, pumps, small engines, lights.
Repair or build such items as bookcases, desks, shelves, picnic tables, picnic shelters, signs and lifeguard towers.
Maintain shop area and keep tools clean and in good repair; order, purchase, and receive parts and supplies required to perform duties; and unload truck delivering materials or supplies.
Troubleshoot and test motors, pumps and electrical equipment.
Winterize buildings and systems by draining pipes, blowing out lines, covering windows and doors and disconnecting electrical connections.
Observe gauges and instruments to determine if equipment is functioning properly.
Investigate maintenance problems or complaints and determine what corrective action is necessary and what tools and supplies will be needed to proceed.
Make recommendations on whether to repair or replace equipment or furniture based on an analysis of life cycle and the cost involved.
Transport equipment to various sites by driving trucks with trailers; change tractor implements.
Keep records of maintenance and repair work.
Provide work guidance to Maintenance and Operations Workers and Parks and Recreation Aides.

Minimum Qualifications
Education: High School graduate, or equivalent.
Experience: Two (2) years of experience maintaining and repairing a building or multiple facilities for a department/organization where you are responsible ventilation, heating, air conditioning, plumbing, steam fitting, refrigeration, and/or other mechanical equipment.
Substitution: None.
Certifications/Licensure: A valid driver’s license. Must have commercial driver license permit within 6 months of hire date and obtain commercial driver license, class A, within one year of hire. Depending on assignment, positions in this job class may be subject to drug and alcohol testing pursuant to Department of Transportation rules. Testing negative on required tests is a condition of employment. Must have or obtain within six months of hire, a Universal Refrigerant Recovery license.

Exam/Screening Process Information
The examination process will consist of the following section with each section weighted as indicated:
- Training and Experience Rating = 100%
The examination for the Maintenance and Service Worker title will consist of a training and experience rating, comprised of the questions in the attached supplemental questionnaire. Not all applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will pass the training and experience rating. The rating on this supplemental questionnaire will depend on your answers to the questions – do not mark "see resume" or "see work history" as a response. Please answer all your questions clearly and completely. Failure to respond could affect your score and final rank on this examination.
Eligible List: The names of all applicants who properly completed an application and passed the examination/screening process shall be placed on the eligible list for an employment opportunity as a Maintenance and Service Worker 1. This list will be certified to the appointing authority which may use this list to conduct interviews to fill a vacancy. Candidates will remain on the list for 2 months or until hired, whichever occurs first. A notice will be sent to applicants at the time the eligible list is posted, informing them that the list has been posted and their status on the list.
Veteran's Preference: This is a classified position requiring an open, competitive selection process. Veteran's Preference points will be applied after a candidate passes the examination process. Applicants who are eligible for veteran's preference should update their veteran's DD214, and other supporting documents, and submit them as an attachment at the time of application.
