SCOTT STUBBS LIVESTOCK Range Sheepherder (Temporary) in PAROWAN, Utah

Temporary Need: 01/07/24 - 11/06/24. Two (2) full-time, seasonal, temporary Range Sheepherders needed. Requirements: A minimum of six (6) months experience herding sheep, be able to lift up to 100 lbs., and have working knowledge of farm machinery and livestock nutrition. On-call 24/7. Wage is $1,901.21/mo. Location: Work will be performed in Parowan, Utah. Multiple work sites: At employers private property, and employers leased US Forest Service and BLM properties located in Iron and Garfield Counties, Utah. All under the employers management and control. Duties: Worker will be working with new herd of sheep. Sheep will all be corralled and penned in groups. Each separate penned group of sheep will be tagged for identification and vaccinated in accordance with veterinarian recommendations. Next, the new herd of sheep will need to be integrated into existing herd. Worker must be able to lift and carry weight up to 100 pounds for 75 yards. Work will be performed outdoors and worker will be exposed to extreme cold conditions on occasion, as well as snowy and windy conditions. Worker will be exposed to herding hazards, poisonous snakes, and predators common in range lands. General supervision will be provided by the ranch owner. A minimum of 6 months experience is required working with sheep. Range Duties include: Herd sheep to pastures for grazing; sort and round up strays; protect and defend livestock from predators and from eating poisonous or noxious plants; ride horse and/or 4-wheeler to move livestock; if riding horse the worker must be able to handle a horse to ensure the safety of the worker, co-workers and livestock; manually restrain livestock when required; apply medication to cuts and bruises; spray sheep with insecticide; feed livestock supplementary rations; feed and care for horses and other domestic animals used on the range to help with herding; setup and take down electric fence; inspect and repair other fencing used to contain the herd. Must be able to find and maintain bearings to grazing areas. Must be willing and able to live and work independently in isolated areas for extended periods of time. Workers must be willing and able to perform tasks capably and efficiently without close supervision. Duties that may be performed off the range less than 50% of the time include: Worker must assist with lambing of sheep, attend to sheep in barns during lambing season, herd sheep into corrals and stalls, manually restrain sheep, may clean stalls, pens and other equipment used for the production of sheep. Terms and conditions of employment: Must be able to maintain bearings for grazing; must be able to ride and handle horses in a manner to assure the safety of the worker, co-workers, and livestock; employee must be willing to perform tasks capably and efficiently without close supervision; absences from work and/or failure to perform required tasks will not be tolerated; must be willing and able to live and work singly or in small groups of workers in isolated areas for extended periods of time; the job entails working with farm machinery such as tractors or ATV's for movement of sheep; will work outdoors in all types of weather and occasional exposure to herding hazards such as poisonous snakes and predators. Must provide employment eligibility documentation (I9 verification) upon hire. The employer will furnish, without cost, all tools, supplies, or equipment required in the performance of work. The employer will provide, at no cost to the worker, Workers' Compensation coverage or private insurance which is equal to Workers' Compensation laws for comparable employment. Applicants that have not worked as a livestock worker during the past twelve (12) months, up to two (2) references will be required. The employer guarantees to offer the worker employment for a total number of work days equal to at least 3/4's of the total work period beginning with the first workday after the arrival of the worker at the plac of employment or advertised contractual first day of need. Whichever is later to occur, and ending on the expiration date specified. If the worker completes 50% of the work contract period, the employer shall pay the worker the cost incurred by the worker for transportation and daily subsistence from the place from which the worker has come to work for the employer ($15.46/day, maximum $59/day with receipts). The offered wage equals or exceeds the highest of the prevailing wage issued and determined by DOL for the time period the work is performed. This job is in connection with a future H-2A labor certification application.
