We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to design and develop ruggedized electronics and enclosures from the ground up to meet customer requirements through all phases of the product lifecycle. This includes preliminary CAD designs, interfacing with electrical engineers, ensuring accuracy of all drawings/documents, creating preliminary bills of material, performing analytical calculations, and communicating technical issues. The role also involves leading failure investigations, creating and reviewing processes for assembly and testing, interfacing with customers, writing technical documents, and supporting new business pursuits.
Responsibilities
Design and develop ruggedized electronics and electronics enclosures.
Create preliminary CAD designs for electronics and enclosures.
Interface with electrical engineers to establish sizing of circuit card assemblies and select materials.
Ensure accuracy of all relevant drawings and documents, including tolerance stack-ups.
Coordinate the creation and verification of a preliminary bill of material in the business system.
Perform or coordinate and review preliminary analytical results (Hand calculations and/or FEA).
Communicate technical and schedule problems to relevant stakeholders in a timely manner.
Disposition non-conforming hardware and assist with correcting production/vendor issues.
Lead or participate in failure investigations of designs.
Create, review, and approve processes for assembly, testing, and related activities for development and qualification testing of designs.
Interface with internal and external customers to determine necessary product changes.
Write technical documents for internal and external customers.
Participate in design reviews (internal and external).
Support new business pursuits that address program technical requirements and associated schedule and costs.
Mentor and guide junior team members.
Essential Skills
B.S. in Mechanical Engineering (Advanced technical degree desirable).
5+ years of design experience and technical knowledge in mechanical engineering design of electronics packaging, preferably in aerospace or defense industry.
Ability to solve complex mechanical static and dynamic problems.
Attention to detail and high level of mechanical aptitude.
Experience in 3D CAD solid modeling and understanding of mechanical design principles (PTC CREO desirable).
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Highly computer literate with MS Office/PC expertise.
Design experience with electronic packaging approaches for defense and aerospace applications.
Knowledge of IPC, WHMA, and NASA specifications for PWBs, CCAs, wiring harnesses, and soldering.
Knowledge of high voltage and altitude design practices at the board and box-level.
Experience designing and testing designs to Mil-Std-810 environments.
Experience with design for manufacturability.
Knowledge of machining operations, brazing, and additive manufacturing.
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Experience performing analytical solutions to structural and thermal design problems using closed-form, ANSYS, ABAQUS, and/or CREO.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Knowledge of PWB and CCA fabrication.
Innovative techniques for cooling electronics in high-temperature environments (e.g., phase-change approaches).

Enjoy a flexible work schedule with options to work 4, 10-hour days Monday through Thursday with every Friday off, or 4, 9-hour days Monday through Thursday and a half-day on Friday.
