Your Opportunity

Stantec's Energy practice has an opportunity for highly motivated Mechanical Engineer to join their team in Pasadena, CA to work on hydroelectric dams, turbine and generator units, and large-diameter dam outlet valve projects. This is a great opportunity to work with industry-leading professionals in the water infrastructure clean power industries.

Your primary role will be to support project execution as a discipline engineer for a variety of projects of varying size and complexity. You will participate in numerous different types of tasks such as inspection, evaluation analysis, design and specification of engineered systems and products for a project verifying compliance with applicable codes and engineering standards/practices.

You will work primarily in the hydropower and water resource sectors. The projects will include new development, modernization, and rehabilitation planning and design of various mechanical systems for hydropower and other water resource projects. Systems will include turbines, generators, valves, gates, hoists, cranes, balance-of-plant mechanical systems and ancillary equipment.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Work in a team environment for the design of large projects with high complexity.

  • Perform design calculations, drafting and development of technical drawings, and Finite Element and other analyses of mechanical equipment.

  • Design and/or specify hydromechanical equipment such as turbines, generators, valves, gates, hoists, cranes and ancillary mechanical components using company standard software and proprietary software.

  • Engage in the development of a design through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats.

  • Develop 2D and 3D models of mechanical systems using Autodesk AutoCAD and/or Inventor and prepare engineering drawings.

  • Prepare and revise reports and documentation through design phases.

  • Participate in proposals and business development efforts from a technical perspective.

  • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines and professionals in the in projects under the direction of senior engineers.

  • Understand and work within Stantec's quality control guidelines.

  • Perform and/or check/review engineering calculations.

  • Perform inspections, oversight and attend workshops and technical meetings as directed by senior engineers.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Ability to perform in a dynamic and fast-paced team environment.

  • Requisite knowledge, interpretation, and application of mechanical standards.

  • Understanding of all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications.

  • Knowledge of mechanical systems, materials, and associated industry standards.

  • Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought.

  • Understanding and experience using AutoCAD and 3D modeling software program Autodesk Inventor.

  • Understanding and experience working with FEA software is a plus.

  • Thorough understanding of mechanical engineering concepts and ability to communicate ideas to others.

  • Knowledge of and ability to use standard computer applications including Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Outstanding written and verbal English communication skills, and a proven ability to write clear, thorough technical reports and ability to present to a group.

  • Ability to take directions, follow process and accept feedback and suggestions from Senior Engineers/Designers.

  • Excellent organizational skills.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering is a plus.

  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) or Active Professional Engineer (PE) registration is a plus.

  • Work experience: 0-2 years.

  • Previous experience or internships in relevant field is a plus.

Typical office environment working with computers and working at a desk for long periods of time. Field work may include regional and international travel, exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Pay transparency laws require employers to provide the following information for positions that may be in the following jurisdiction(s):

Salary Range(s):

  • $35.91 - $50.24 Min/Max Pay Range for postings located in CA (SF Area includes SF, SJS & WLC)

The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
