Editorial, Design and Publishing

The role: Manager

The team: Editorial, Design and Publishing provides comprehensive editing, design, desktop publishing, and print/production services to customers within S&P Global. We catch and correct errors, ranging from typos to factual mistakes, and we advise on how to make content more accessible and appealing. We can offer guidance on potential copyright and other legal liabilities. We guard the brand, flagging and fixing elements that do not align with our guidelines. We offer training, tools, and standards to help create high-quality products.

The Impact: This position is responsible for editorial support of S&P Global content. The main focus is to maintain and enhance the quality and consistency of editorial content by editing and checking text, ensuring it is clear and concise, and written in accordance with the company style; giving constructive feedback as required to authors, analysts and researchers.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of editors in multiple locations/countries

  • Responsible for the day-to-day workflow management and performance of a team to ensure accuracy and efficiency of process workflows.

  • Actively involved in recruitment, orientation and training new hires

  • Responsible for communicating job expectations, coaching, planning and appraising results

  • Able to empathize with colleagues to establish a trusting relationship and to maintain team morale

  • Evaluate resource needs and plan resources

  • Responsible for learning needs within the team, which may include training needs assessments, coaching and providing feedback

  • Edit content independently and with direction from managers

  • Check copy for branding consistency (including charts, tables, and other graphics), and make necessary amendments on content management systems, PowerPoint, Excel, Word etc.

  • Ensure deadlines are met

  • Edit, format, and publish reports for style, consistency, and clarity

  • Must be able to work during London business hours

What we’re looking for

  • Degree level or equivalent education (BA in English, Journalism, Communication or NCTJ equivalent)

  • 8-10 years of professional sub-editing experience

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office

  • Knowledge of content management systems and InDesign would be an advantage

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills

  • Excellent standard of written and spoken English

  • Able to meet tight deadlines and display a strong degree of flexibility and versatility
