About Correctional Industrial Facility:

As a part of the Indiana Department of Correction, the Correctional Industrial Facility promotes public safety by providing meaningful, effective opportunities for successful re-entry. We strive to model best Correctional practices, return productive citizens to our communities, and inspire a culture of accountability, integrity and professionalism. The Correctional Industrial Facility is a level 2-3, medium security Correctional facility for adult males. The Correctional Industrial Facility is located in Pendleton, Indiana. The Correctional Industrial Facility has various job opportunities available to incarcerated individuals to aid in the re-entry process, including apprenticeships, maintenance, grounds crew, food service, sanitation, barbering, and manufacturing. Incarcerated individuals are also afforded the opportunity to earn their GED.

Role Overview:

In this position, you will be responsible for completion of job assignments and accuracy of records, forms, reports, and technical information disseminated. Guidance is received from the Lead Foreman 1 or Plant Manager in determining work assignments.

Salary Statement:

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $42,900.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Supervise offender workers in the production work of assigned shop.

  • Provide on-the-job training to offenders in the manufacturing, processing, and/or shipping of products.

  • Ensure that the offenders register and fulfill the training according to work processes as defined by United States Department of Labor (USDOL) Apprenticeship Program.

  • Perform or supervise the set up and maintenance of equipment.

  • Provide all applicable safety training to offender workers for assigned areas of supervision.

  • Monitor quality control of finished goods and work being performed.

What You'll Need for Success:

You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment:

  • High School Diploma or High School Equivalent (HSE).

  • Four (4) years of full-time experience in the production of goods or services, or related experience.

  • Substitution: Each two (2) years of high school may substitute for one (1) year of the required experience.

  • Completion of an accredited vocational training program related to the area of assignment may substitute for the required experience with a maximum substitution of one (1) year.

  • Thorough knowledge of one or more of the areas of manufacturing, including knowledge of equipment maintenance and set-up.

  • Ability to follow production schedules and monitor quality of work.

  • Ability to resolve operational problems.

  • Ability to supervise offenders performing work that requires exactness and accuracy, while ensuring that all work is performed in accordance with custody policy and procedure.

Physical Effort:

Depending on the duties performed or environment setting, frequent walking, standing, climbing stairs or ladders, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling and/or similar movements may be involved.

This role requires the use limbs/fingers to easily perform manual functions. Equipment used may include the operation of complex manual and electric powered equipment or hand-tools.

This role requires the ability to lift/transport items greater than 50 lbs with or without the assistance of equipment.
