Job Summary The role of a coder is to support the accuracy of data information used in patient medical records and is vital to health care needs today. The coding role also ensures compliance with established correct coding initiatives/guidelines, third party reimbursement policies, regulations, and accreditation guidelines. All duties and responsibilities will be performed in accordance with the Yellowhawk Mission and Vision statements. Essential Job Functions: 1. Comply with all legal requirements regarding Coding Procedures, practices and Ethics 2. Ensure compliance to all Yellowhawk policies and procedures, as well as HIPPA compliance. 3. Ensure all documentation is complete, accurate and captures medical necessity prior to submitting for potential reimbursement. 4. Assign and sequence all appropriate codes for services rendered while adhering to CPT Guidelines, National Correct Coding Initiatives and ICD-10-CM Guidelines. 5. Assure Coding Queries are sent in a timely manner; and followed up on daily until resolved. 6. Provide documentation guidance and education to assigned providers regularly. 7. Work closely with Lead Medical Coder and other Coding staff to ensure processes and policies are followed. 8. Provide On boarding training to new staff that render patient care. Assure off boarding processes are followed for departing staff. 9. Actively collaborate as a member of the Revenue team 10. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: 1. High school diploma or equivalent required. 2. Valid Coding Certification from AAPC or AHIMA. (If obtained certification was prior to 12/31/2015, must show certification of ICD-10-CM proficiency). 3. 4 years of Medical Coding experience. OR 6 years of direct Medical Billing experience. 4. Continuing Education Units as required by Coding Certification are maintained. 5. Ability to make sure codes are assigned correctly and sequenced appropriately as per documentation, government and insurance regulations. 6. Complying with all Medical Coding guidelines and policies. 7. Demonstrated experience in querying providers for further clarification. 8. Ability to learn and accurately code Multi-Specialty services. 9. Must possess a valid driver\'s license and maintain insurance requirements to operate General Services Administration vehicles. 10. Must submit to and pass a reference and criminal background check. 11. Must submit to and pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening 12. Must be able to work a remote hybrid rotation. Preferred Qualifications: 1. Coding experience in a Tribal Health Facility. 2. Knowledge and/or familiarity of Indian Health Service. 3. Multi Credentialed Coder.
