DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Transportation Construction Inspector, you will perform a variety of technical duties in the inspection of materials and workmanship on highway construction projects within Engineering District 10-0 to ensure all work is completed in conformance with approved construction codes, plans, standards, and specifications. You will also monitor the proper placement of various materials, including cement concrete, bituminous concrete, and drainage materials, as well as other relevant materials. Additionally, you will utilize your communication skills by engaging with department personnel, federal, state, and local agencies, legislators, and the public to ensure the smooth and efficient management of all projects.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment

  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch. This position has vendor-controlled work hours.

  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, on an ad hoc basis. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Indiana.

  • Overtime and travel as needed/directed.

  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as an Engineering Technician (commonwealth title); or

  • Two years as a Transportation Technician or Construction Cost Technician 1 (commonwealth titles); or

  • One year of construction inspection experience, and an associate’s degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, geotechnical engineering, surveying engineering technology, or a closely related engineering technology; or

  • Three years of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work; or

  • Three years of experience in quality control of materials or building or construction industry experience, which includes reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics; or

  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of an active non-commercial Pennsylvania Class C Driver’s License or equivalent.
