DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Utility Plant Operator 2, you will be entrusted with a diverse range of tasks, each day presenting unique challenges. Your role will involve maintaining boilers in line with the guidelines to meet the center's steam requirements. You will be responsible for managing, regulating, and maintaining the equipment necessary for steam generation. This equipment includes feed water pumps, forced draft fans, condensate return pumps, fuel oil pumps, air compressors, water softeners, chemical feed pumps, air dryers, PRV stations, and controls for pressure, level, and temperature. You will also be responsible for operating the emergency generator plant, manually transferring electrical load when necessary, and driving state vehicles to procure parts or supplies. Additionally, you will act as a lead worker over semi-skilled utility plant staff.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment

  • Hours of work will be from Sunday to Saturday, with rotating days off. There are no unpaid lunch breaks for employees in this position.

  • Shifts will be assigned based on operational needs. Two shifts are available:

  • Position #1: 2nd shift, 3:00 PM - 11:00 PM

  • Position #2: Relief operator, which is the swing shift between 1st shift (7:00 AM - 3:00 PM), 2nd shift (3:00 PM - 11:00 PM), and 3rd shift (11:00 PM - 7:00 AM).

  • May change based on operational needs.

  • Overtime is as needed

  • FREE PARKING!

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience as a Utility Plant Operator 1 (commonwealth title); or

  • One year of semi-skilled work experience in the operation, maintenance, or repair of industrial, commercial, or institutional utility plant systems and related equipment; or

  • An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes six months of semi-skilled work experience in the operation, maintenance, or repair of industrial, commercial, or institutional utility plant systems and related equipment.

    Special Requirements:

  • You must possess an active Class C motor vehicle license.
