Ascension Health Patient Access Coordinator in Pensacola, Florida

  • Schedule: Full Time Days, Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

  • Hospital: Ascension Sacred Heart Hospital Pensacola

  • Location: Pensacola, FL

This position will function as the clinic's Financial Coordinator

  • At least 1 year experience in insurance verification/processing and billing required.

  • Experience with Availity required.

  • Prior Transplant billing experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Coordinate the daily operations of assigned area(s).

  • Coordinate patient access activities, such as registration, billing, and scheduling.

  • Assist management in establishing and implementing goals.

  • Serve as a liaison between clinical and administrative areas to ensure sound working relationships and cooperative arrangements.

  • Assist in monitoring budgets, staffing levels, quality measures, and/or regulatory compliance.

Requirements

Education:

  • High School diploma equivalency OR 1 year of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.

  • Note: Required professional licensure/certification can be used in lieu of education or experience, if applicable.

Additional Preferences

Responsibilities:

Pre Transplant

  • Meet with the pre/annual and living donor patients for evaluation

  • Prepare evaluation note

  • Perform listing evaluations and appeal denials

  • Arrange for peer to peer when applicable

  • Apply with single case agreements with UHC for new patients and renew for annual listed patients

  • Process/return insurance correspondence regarding patient progress (evaluation, listing, transplant).

  • Review patients monthly for eligible insurance (based on current waitlist and work with front desk MA); resolve issues as they arise

  • Assess for, collect and monitor financial requirements. Update patient coordinator.

  • Attend MRB each week with summary of patients assessed for the week and any issues that arose that week

  • Assist with evaluation and procedure auths as needed (work with referral MA)

  • Assist with facility fee processing as needed (work with front desk MA)

Post Transplant

  • Meet with post transplant patients at intervals during first year (benefits change after transplant due to Medicare rules)

  • Provide assistance with billing issues, prescriptions coverage, AKF issues and loss of insurance

  • Email R1 registration and finance teams insurance for pending transplants

  • Fax insurance information to pharmacy (inpatient stay) to prepare for discharge

  • Provide transplant case managers with clinicals as needed

  • Round on inpatients as designated by protocol (CMS guidelines)

  • Provide copay coverage from pharmacy benefits investigation (see above)

  • Attend post transplant huddle each week with summary of patients assessed and any issues that arose that week

  • Submit post transplant acquisition fees to Powerchart

General Office

  • Assist with testing authorizations as needed (Front desk primary)

  • Charge reconciliation daily and monthly- review and correct in Powerchart/AS400 as needed for rebilling

  • Assist coders with transplant billing concerns/issues/provider issues

  • Attend ops and process huddles with the team weekly

  • Scan all financial documents in OTTR or EMR

  • Assist with assembling data for cardiology and radiology invoices for manager submission
