This class works under close supervision according | | to set procedures. The functions listed below are those that | | represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. | | Management may assign additional functions related to the type of | | work of the class as necessary. | | | | Position is located primarily at the Customer Services Desk and is | | essential to the provision of library customer services. | +-----------------------------------------------------------------------+ | | +-----------------------------------------------------------------------+ | Essential Functions: | +-----------------------------------------------------------------------+ | Serves at the customer service desk and responds to routine reference | | and information questions; refers more difficult or complex questions | | to appropriate library staff. | | | | Checks books and library materials in and out using an automated | | system. | | | | Registers customers for library cards. | | | | Manages library collection maintenance by searching for information | | concerning additions, replacements, and withdrawals; performs other | | inventory maintenance tasks as needed. | | | | Assists in developing and conducting programs throughout the year. | | | | Attends community functions to promote the Library and its programs. | | | | Answers telephone inquiries, routine reference, and informational | | questions; responds to questions regarding library circulation | | policies and library procedures. | | | | Identifies overdue and damaged materials; mails overdue notices. | | | | Assists customers with copier and fax machines, assists other staff | | with keeping holds shelf up to date, and maintains collection | | including DVDs, periodicals and other first floor materials. | | | | Performs related work as assigned. | | +-----------------------------------------------------------------------+ | Qualifications: | +-----------------------------------------------------------------------+ | Requires High School graduation or GED equivalent. | | | | Requires six (6) months in a public library setting; knowledge of | | library principles, practices, and materials. | | | | An equivalent combination of training and experience (as approved by | | the department) may be used to meet the minimum qualifications of the | | position. | | | | Preferred Qualifications: | | | | - Experience with an automated library circulation system a plus. | | - Experience with operating large automotive equipment (van or | | minibus)on the open highway and city streets a plus. | | | | Must be willing to work evenings and weekends. | | | | Special Certifications and Licenses: | | | | - Valid Virginia (or another state with reciprocity) Driver's | | License. | | | | Good Driving Record Requirements consistent with the City of | | Petersburg's Administrative Regulation - Employee Driving Record: | | | | - Must not have more than six (6) demerit points within the past | | thirty-six (36) months; | | - No major violation within the past thirty-six (36) months; and | | - Nomisdemeanor suspension within the last twenty-four (24) months. | +-----------------------------------------------------------------------+ | Additional Requirements: | +-----------------------------------------------------------------------+ | Americans with Disabilities Act Compliance: The City of Petersburg is | | an Equal Opportunity Employer.
