Silver Star Hotel & Casino Buffet Attendant - Part Time in Philadelphia, Mississippi

Overview

Responsible for properly cleaning the buffet food pass area and keeping hot and cold food pass, salad bar and dessert stations filled with food for our guests.

Contribute to a safe work environment, through compliance with established health & safety guidelines, identifying potential safety and/or health hazards, and reporting same to the appropriate person for proper resolution.

        

Maintain a professional departmental, company and community reputation.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Greet and communicate with all Guests directed to seating in the assigned area in a friendly and courteous manner.  Insure prompt, expedient and courteous service to all Guests and members of their party. 
  • Smile and show genuine interest and enthusiasm in the Guests' needs or questions and attempt to accommodate any reasonable request.
  • Providing customers with information on the dishes, and their ingredients if asked.
  • Take temperatures of food to verify it meets Health Code standards. (every two hours)
  • Checking the product level in the buffet and replacing food pass as need, following SOP.
  • Carve buffet items and serve a portion to the guest's request.
  • Change serving utensils as needed.
  • Ensure all food areas are clean and wiped down at all times.  This includes, but not limited to Carving station, Dessert station and Salad bar area.
  • Maintain a food par in the warming box and as the par decreases, notify the kitchen of the product needing replaced.
  • Serve guests requested desserts including soft ice cream
  • Plate desserts onto service plates and arrange desserts in an attractive presentation as directed by the Chef.
  • Assist Cooks as needed
  • Provide superior food service by removing all used plates, trash, glasses and other obstructions in a timely and quiet manner.
  • Maintain clean and safe work areas at all times.
  • Attempt to resolve all Guest complaints when possible or ensure the Room chef/Sous chef/Shift Supervisor is immediately contacted to address the more serious or sensitive issues, concerts or requests.
  • Operate basic food and beverage equipment or appliances in order to complete the assigned duties.
  • Handle sensitive and/or stressful situations or information with tact, discretion and a pleasant demeanor.
  • Maintain a good working relationship and provide daily detailed communications with the food and beverage leaders and other co-workers.
  • Be familiar with, enforce and follow all health and safety practices and procedures.
  • Assists other areas of food production as needed.
  • Responsible for maintaining a consistent, regular attendance record.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

AGE and GAMING:

18 years of age or above

Gaming property -- Must be able to obtain and maintain a gaming license issued by the Choctaw Gaming Commission.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

High School diploma or GED is preferred.  

SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Strong organizational and interpersonal s ills required.  Must be Serv-Safe certified or become certified within thirty (30) days of employment at pearl River Resort.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instruction, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of guests or employees and one on one.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as addition subtraction and multiplication tables.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

 

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by the Associate to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

 

Essential responsibilities include moderate to heavy physical ability such as lift or maneuver at least fifty (50) pounds, and standing/walking 100% of the shift.  Perform position responsibilities and/or essential functions on slippery or wet surfaces.  Work with hazardous chemicals.  Must be able to work while wearing latex, vinyl, or rubber gloves.  Bending, stooping and stretching of arms during assigned shift.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  When on the casino floor, the noise level increases to loud.  When on the casino floor or other designated areas may be subjected to tobacco smoke. 

Due to the unpredictable nature of the hospitality/entertainment industry, Associates must be able to work varying-schedules to reflect the business needs of the property.
