Summary: The chaplain shall provide pastoral care according to an inter-faith model to patients, families, and (where appropriate) staff members throughout the Penn Presbyterian Medical Center. Coverage hours, including on-call coverage, and assignments shall be negotiated with the Manager for Pastoral Care. The chaplain shall work as part of the multidisciplinary structure at the hospital, which is coordinated through interdisciplinary documentation and team communication and collaboration. Work as part of the Trauma Center follows particular protocols and involves special responsibilities, including the management of Trauma patients’ families.

Responsibilities: Strong verbal/written communication and advanced computer skills including proficiency in all Microsoft Office. Ability to communicate with patients and families about their illness/hospital experience. Capacity for conflict de-escalation and resolution. Ability to work with chaplain residents, in their residency program. Strong teamwork skills and ability to work in a team environment with fluid communication. Skill/experience with the action-reflection model useful to clinical discussion of pastoral care cases.

Education or Equivalent Experience: Bachelor's Degree, required (Theology, preferred). Clinical Pastoral Education or equivalent, required (at least 4 units, with level II outcomes addressed). At least 3 years of progressive experience in pastoral care or chaplaincy required, with significant experience with trauma. Master's Degree or equivalent, preferred (Theology, preferred). BCCi or BCCi eligible, preferred.
