Job Description Summary
The Director of Digital Dentistry Laboratory Technology will be responsible for directing the operations and maintenance of a state-of-the-art digital dental laboratory facility in the Department of Preventive and Restorative Sciences at Penn Dental Medicine (PDM). The Digital Dentistry and Milling Center provides both educational exposure for our dental students to the designing and milling of ceramic restorations, as well as a more streamlined patient experience with expedited treatment plans.
PDM is seeking an exceptional candidate to plan, develop, oversee, and direct the policies, practices, procedures, dental laboratory technology, and laboratory staff personnel; direct the daily operation of the dental laboratories; provide direction in fabricating select comprehensive and advanced cases for students, faculty, and patient; assess and assure quality control in accordance with set standards while supervising its fiscal and technical operations; and plan strategic direction for the PDM dental laboratory. He/She will also review and recommend PDM objectives; evaluate new approaches to problem-solving and assess changing facts and conditions; develop laboratory and material research, collaborate in that respect with other University of Pennsylvania Institutes and attain outside funding in relevant areas. The Director of Digital Dentistry Laboratory Technology will also be required to participate in the educational mission of the school, including student classroom instruction, continuing education courses, and laboratory technician training.
Job Description
Job Responsibilities
Direct and oversee the daily operation of the digital dental dentistry laboratory ensuring it is properly organized.
Provide strategic and administrative planning and direction. Develop technology, service and/or marketing resources within the operation to facilitate future growth.
Oversee and provide necessary comprehensive and advanced support in restorative cases for dental laboratory needs of all PDM clinics, cohorts, and satellite locations, and external clients.
Develop and oversee full operating budget, business plan and/or funding sources to support Penn Dental Medicine; monitor related financial activities. Prepare various required reports and analysis of activities.
Serves as liaison with other University offices/schools, staff, faculty, students, and with external constituencies and develop collaborations as deemed appropriate, ie. School of Engineering, etc. Respond to inquiries, requests and comments via telephone, correspondence, or in person.
Assist with and/or develop and plan digital workflows, policies, practices and procedures to ensure effective operation of digital dental dentistry laboratory; recommend and develop process improvements for achievement of more effective streamlined operations.
Participate in the educational mission of the School, ie. student instruction, continuing education courses, laboratory technician training.
Support research efforts.
Represent the Department of Preventive and Restorative Sciences on University-wide committees and projects and at related state, regional, national and/or international activities. Travel as necessary to establish, maintain, and advance positive business relationships.
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, and 7 to 10 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
