Under the direction of CFO, the Director of Protection Services is responsible for management of a security operations which include staff of approximately 21 proprietary officers and 160 contract supervisors and officers. S/he participates in the development and establishment of policies, standards, procedures, and initiatives for protecting the Museum’s collection as well as the visitors and staff for all buildings. This individual has responsibility for development, implementation, and oversight of approved security strategies and programs. In collaboration with Director of Visitor Operations and Membership s/he works to ensure the highest level of visitor engagement by security personnel. S/he oversees security training to ensure full compliance with all Museum policies and local, state, and federal laws regarding emergency management, loss prevention, and public safety. S/he oversees the on-site management staff of the Museum’s security contractor to ensure that security performance goals and objectives are achieved. S/he provides front-line supervision for emergency and crisis management, and training.
Specifically, you will:
Security Operations
Ensure that the visitor-focus and visitor-related activities are monitored, improved, and remain at the forefront of the protection services objectives
Manage the professional response to visitors and staff in security-related matters
Assist in coordinating and implementing security objectives and activities to ensure protection of staff, visitors, the Museum’s collection, buildings, and grounds
Manage the Security Control Centers
Evaluate the operation of security devices and equipment and ensure that proper maintenance and repairs are made
Prepare reports and establish Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) on all security measures
Maintain security-related project schedules and meet mutually agreed timelines
Planning and Responding
Develop, implement, and continually refine security programs, processes and procedures to reduce risks, limit exposure, and liability
Provide subject matter expertise for the research and deployment of state-of-the-art technology solutions and innovative security management techniques
Provide technical expertise and appropriate knowledge of risk and cost-effective delivery of essential security services
Respond to incidents, determine actions to take, and document actions taken, tracking through to completion/resolution
Coordinate and/or conduct internal and external investigations as appropriate
Coordinate and/or deliver services in response to financial loss, all-hazards emergencies, illegal acts, and property crimes
Management and Administration
Direct assignment of PMA protection services employees, manage their effective deployment and performance
Foster relationships with high-level law enforcement and counterparts to include domestic security agencies and public/private sector counterparts
Develops budgets for security staffing, programs, and equipment
Ensure PMA protection services employees are trained and practiced in all aspects of security protocol and emergency response
Serve as a liaison with local, state and federal law enforcement on security issues
Prepare operational policies and procedures on behalf of the department.
Perform other duties as assigned
Your background and experience include:
BA/BS degree from accredited educational institution in public administration or a related field; advanced degree preferred
Ten to fifteen years of security management experience with major public or private-sector security operation
Minimum 3 years managerial-level security experience in large, high-profile, mixed-use building(s) with high visitor volume with strong visitor services focus
Experience working with visitors in cultural, hospitality, or recreational industries
In-depth and broad experience in various facets of security, crisis management, and leadership acquired through progressively responsible positions
Strong organizational, analytical, risk assessment, and conflict resolution skills
Strong knowledge of electronic and physical security engineering systems
Experience in dealing with labor union related issues
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong computer skills with experience in computerized security systems
Knowledge of relevant laws and public policies
Position and Compensation Details
The salary for this position is $120,000.
This position is Full-Time, Exempt, and 35 hours per week.
This position reports to Chief Financial Officer
Physical requirements:
Able to remain stationary for extended periods of time, to utilize computers and other office equipment required of this job, to perform physically administrative duties in a typical interior office environment, gallery, or exhibit space, and to access most public and staff areas of the museum campus.
Ability to travel throughout the Museum campus - work is performed both indoors and out at multiple Museum sites.
Much of the work requires moving throughout the buildings.
Physical effort requires frequent walking, standing, stooping, and bending with occasional running, lifting (up to 50 pounds), climbing, kneeling, and squatting.
May deal with unpleasant situations.
May have occasional exposure to dust and fumes.
Must be available to work weekends, (schedule will include one weekend day).
In addition, work on evenings and holidays may be required.
Position is an emergency responder and has 24/7 on-call status.
