Your Opportunity

In this position as a summer student intern, you will have the opportunity to work as part of a team of engineers and technologists on multiple projects for a range of public and private sector clients. This is a great opportunity for a motivated, energetic individual who wants to challenge their abilities in a dynamic work environment. You will assist on a variety of selected tasks and assignments to continue to develop knowledge and skills within the Mechanical and HVAC/ Plumbing disciplines. Assignments will require good technical understanding of the basics. Work performed will be under the direct supervision of a Senior Technician or Engineer. The intern will assist our team in the daily design activities for various projects and will include reviewing and understanding drawings, preparing design calculations, and drafting engineered mark-ups into Revit design program for various Plumbing and Mechanical systems. These systems include domestic water, drainage, natural gas, compressed air, and medical gas systems. There will be opportunities to be on construction sites and attend field meetings with the design engineer to observe construction progress and complete field observations. Looking for self-motivated individuals with good communication skills and experience with Excel and Revit.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Production of Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) drawings, primarily in Revit.

  • Provides drafting and design assistance for a wide variety of projects, from report stage through design and construction administration.

  • Performs field work (evaluation of existing sites) as directed by senior engineer/designer.

  • Participation in mechanical or HVAC/ plumbing engineering design including building load calculations, ductwork, piping and equipment layouts.

  • Follows production guidelines and project standards in the department drafting standards manual.

  • Assists with engineering duties on projects of various complexity.

  • Students will have the opportunity to accompany senior staff to construction sites and pre-design site visits.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by the senior engineering staff.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Proficient in CADD with basic understanding of Revit and AutoCad, and the use of it as a drafting/design tool.

  • Ability to participate and collaborate in a project team setting.

  • Ability to take direction, follow process and accept feedback and suggestions from senior engineers/designers.

Education and Experience

  • Working toward a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Architectural Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include using a ladder, working with measuring tools and exposure to the elements while working outside.
