Summary

Contracts Manager - Energy Innovation Consultant | Strategic Projects: Developing and managing the lifecycle of contracts in Customer to Grid Solutions(C2GS) for energy innovation and technology initiatives and projects with both customer and utility-focus.

You are responsible for:

  • Advanced contract drafting and negotiation, focusing on achieving favorable terms while managing and articulating risks for all parties involved.

  • Leveraging expertise in environmental policy, certifications, and carbon markets to ensure compliance with industry standards and customer sustainability goals.

  • Develops relationships with key stakeholders both internally and externally.

  • Communicating complex information clearly to stakeholders at all levels, ensuring that contracts reflect customer needs and strategic goals.

  • Managing the full lifecycle of contracts, from drafting through execution, with a focus on consistency and legal compliance across multiple programs.

The kinds of people we want to talk to have done many of the following:

  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of emerging energy technologies and related business models, such as solar, energy storage, electric vehicles, energy management software platforms, etc.

  • In-depth knowledge of energy issues, technologies, markets, the electric utility industry, and relevant state and federal requirements.

  • Experienced in environmental policy, certifications, and carbon markets, with the ability to integrate these into customer contracts.

  • Skilled in communication and client relations, able to clearly present information and provide legal guidance that aligns with customer needs and organizational goals.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors' degree Business Administration, Law, Finance, Supply Chain Management, or a related field. AND eight (8) years of prior relevant experience in energy policy related to the power and natural gas sectors with an understanding of legal, regulatory, technical and business issues impacting the industry including renewable energy credits, renewables, distributed energy and grid technologies.

  • In lieu of Bachelor's degree, High School/GED PLUS twelve 12 years directly related experience in the power and natural gas sectors with an understanding of regulatory, technical and business issues impacting the industry including renewable energy credits, renewables, distributed energy and grid technologies.

Major Accountabilities

  • Research and identify emerging and innovative technology solutions to support key customer and utility focused business initiatives.

  • Understanding of customer needs and reflecting these in contracts.

  • Reaching favorable terms while collaboratively articulating and managing risks for both parties.

  • Experience in providing contractual oversight to ensure customer satisfaction.

  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple complex contracts simultaneously.

  • Ability to oversee the contract lifecycle from drafting to execution thru the term.

  • Effectuate consistent contract language across multiple C2GS programs, where applicable in collaboration with lead project managers, develop and implement project work plans and secure buyoff and approval from cooperating departments. Regularly revise work plans to reflect current conditions and update as appropriate.

  • Provide oversight and direction to the teams performing research and analysis related to emerging technologies and impact to business.

  • Monitor and manage project budgets to maximize the benefit to ratepayers and the corporation by assuring projects come in at or under budget. Provide input and support into internal reporting and communications on budget and progress related aspects.

  • Effectively interface and resolve project issues with departmental staff, other departments, executive management, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders to meet project requirements.

  • Maintain current knowledge of trends (technical, market, regulatory and political) and utilize this knowledge in order to maximize corporate benefits and minimize negative impacts.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with key local and state Energy Innovation stakeholders.

  • Participate as Company representative and technology expert in various forums, committees and working groups dealing with various Energy Innovation technical, policy and regulatory issues. Provide updates on industry and technology trends.

Flex Role:

This position is not required to be performed at a specific APS facility as long as adequate technology and a solid ergonomic set up are present. Pending agreement with leadership, employees hired into this role will be able to choose where they prefer to perform their work, but the ultimate decision is the company's. Employees will have two options to choose from:

  • APS office based: The employee prefers to work most of the time from an APS facility.

  • Home based: The employee prefers to work most of the time from his/her home.

    *Employees in Flex roles are required to reside in Arizona (or NM for Four Corners-based employees). Role types are subject to change based on business need.
