Job Overview:

As the Director of Tax, you will play a key role in providing strategic leadership and direction, fostering a collaborative culture, and driving operational excellence across the organization. This pivotal role involves shaping and executing the company's strategic initiatives to drive growth, profitability, and operational excellence. As a Director of Tax, you will be responsible for reviewing and evaluating all tax-related accounting procedures to ensure compliance and accuracy. This role includes directing strategies to optimize the use of credits, incentives and other tax-related accounting items. You will interview, train, and supervise the tax team, and manage the preparation, submission, and disclosure of quarterly and annual regulatory and tax reports. As a key leader, you will play a crucial role in fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture that aligns with Leslie’s vision and values.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with all company tax activity (US federal and US state), including accounting for income taxes, technical research, process improvement, and risk and controls.

  • Develop and lead tax strategy, assess the tax impact of strategic initiatives, and drive tax decision-making to improve shareholder value.

  • Provide active support to leadership in strategic decision-making, due diligence, mergers/acquisitions, and restructuring to ensure consideration of associated tax implications.

  • Ensure compliance with US tax laws and regulations, US GAAP, SOX, and other domestic requirements.

  • Identify tax risks and offer viable solutions to mitigate risk and exposure.

  • Manage indirect tax compliance and associated risks.

  • Monitor legislative and statutory tax changes, assess potential impacts, and adjust programs accordingly.

  • Oversee transfer pricing policies and related documentation.

  • Ensure appropriate internal controls for income tax accounting.

  • Respond to tax audits and inquiries from federal, state, and local authorities.

  • Manage the tax team, including external tax consultants and advisors.

  • Build, maintain, and leverage close working relationships with internal partners, including executive management, financial reporting, accounting, treasury, legal, HR, and business operations.

  • Develop and implement long-term strategies to advance company objectives and drive growth.

  • Oversee day-to-day operations to ensure efficiency, quality, and cost-effective resource management, while monitoring performance metrics and implementing continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Lead, build, and mentor a high-performing team based on collaboration, innovation, and performance, fostering a culture aligned with Leslie’s Mission, Vision, and Values.

  • Ensure projects are completed on time, within scope, and within budget.

  • Facilitate communication and collaboration within the department and with other departments.

    Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field; MBA or other advanced degree preferred.

  • 10+ years of professional experience in tax accounting, ideally at a public company.

  • 3+ years of experience in a senior/lead tax role with a proven track record of managing a tax function or team.

  • Active CPA license.

  • Strong understanding of US GAAP and SEC reporting.

  • Deep technical expertise with a demonstrated ability to resolve complex tax issues.

  • Experience in successfully managing multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.

  • Ability to quickly understand and integrate business objectives with tax strategies, and to communicate tax requirements effectively to executive leadership.

  • Strong leadership and decision-making skills, with the capability to drive organizational change and innovation.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
