Located in the Valley of Sun in the heart of Phoenix, Arizona, GCU is a regionally accredited, private, nondenominational Christian University.

The Executive Director of Semiconductor Workforce Development and Industry Partnerships is responsible for leading the development and implementation of the strategy, programs, and initiatives within GCU’s College of Engineering & Technology aimed at cultivating a highly skilled semiconductor workforce. This role will involve collaboration with Grand Canyon University’s academic departments; local, state, and national industry partners; and government agencies - ensuring that the university's educational offerings and workforce development plans align with the evolving needs of the semiconductor industry. The Executive Director will play a pivotal role in bridging the gap between academia and industry, driving curriculum innovation, facilitating industry partnerships, teaming with the GCU and GCE organizations (Grant’s office, Enrollment, etc), and enhancing student career readiness in the semiconductor field.

Location: Main Campus, 33rd and Camelback

What you will do:

Program Development and Management:

  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of semiconductor workforce development strategy, programs, including apprenticeships and certificate programs, degree pathways, and continuing education initiatives.

  • Collaborate with faculty to integrate semiconductor industry standards, technologies, and practices into the curriculum.

  • Oversee the development of hands-on training labs and experiential learning opportunities focused on semiconductor technologies.

Industry Partnerships:

  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with semiconductor companies, industry associations, and government agencies to support workforce development initiatives.

  • Identify and secure funding opportunities, including grants, donations, and partnerships, to support program growth and sustainability.

  • Develop GCU CHIPS Act and SWAP Hub partnering approach.

  • Facilitate internship, co-op, and job placement opportunities for students within the semiconductor industry.

Strategic Planning and Leadership:

  • Develop and implement a strategic plan for semiconductor workforce development in alignment with the university’s mission and goals.

  • Provide leadership and direction to staff, faculty, and other stakeholders involved in semiconductor workforce initiatives.

  • Monitor industry trends and workforce needs to ensure the university’s programs remain relevant and responsive to industry demands.

Outreach and Engagement:

  • Represent the university at industry conferences, workshops, and networking events to promote semiconductor workforce development initiatives.

  • Lead marketing and outreach efforts (in conjunction with next bullet) to attract students to semiconductor workforce development programs.

  • Collaborate with K-12 organizations, community colleges, universities, and industry to develop pathways for students interested in pursuing careers in the semiconductor industry.

Assessment and Reporting:

  • Establish metrics and assessment tools to measure the effectiveness of workforce development programs and initiatives.

  • Prepare and present reports to university leadership, industry partners, and funding agencies on program outcomes and impacts.

  • Ensure compliance with accreditation standards and other regulatory requirements related to workforce development programs.

What you need:

  • Master’s degree in Technology, Engineering, Business degree program; or

  • Previous experience as senior leader can be considered in lieu of degree.

  • Industry experience in semiconductor engineering.

  • Must pass pre-employment background investigation.

  • Demonstrates integrity and ethical behavior congruent with GCU’s pillars and mission with a commitment to Christian ideals and philosophy.

  • Strong and effective oral and written communication skills with ability to articulate University and College mission, strategic goals, and objectives.

  • Ability to develop collaborative and cooperative relationships with committees, colleagues, faculty, and administration.

  • Effectively manage conflict, resolve personnel challenges, enforce policy and ethical principles, and protect confidentiality of all employees.

  • Exhibit a positive, customer oriented, and supportive attitude.

  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite, databases, and routine office software (email, internet, etc.)
