Summary

IT Voice & Data Center Technician II / III | Ensuring Optimal Performance & Reliability of Critical Infrastructure

As an IT Voice & Data Center Technician II / III, you’ll play a vital role in maintaining the seamless operation of our data center infrastructure. You’ll be responsible for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting organization-owned hardware, network systems, and related infrastructure, ensuring the reliability and performance of critical IT operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, maintain, and troubleshoot hardware and infrastructure components to ensure optimal data center performance.

  • Collaborate with senior technicians and IT teams to support regular maintenance activities, emergency repairs, and operational needs.

  • Manage installation, moves, and decommissioning of devices and equipment.

  • Ensure adherence to best practices for data center operations, providing rapid response and resolution to any issues that arise.

  • Support the continuous improvement of data center facilities and infrastructure.

Minimum Requirements

IT Voice & Data Center Technician II | Ensuring Optimal Performance & Reliability of Critical Infrastructure

  • Equivalent to a high school diploma

  • AND two (2) years related data center Data Center or similar environment (racking & stacking gear, cable management, hot & cold aisle containment).

  • Experience working with Ethernet or fiber cables, troubleshooting computer hardware and rack mounted network switches/routers and servers.

  • Available for on-call duties up to 24/7days a week and to be ability to travel between locations.

  • Equivalent to a high school diploma

  • AND five (5) years related data center Data Center or similar environment (racking & stacking gear, cable management, hot & cold aisle containment).

  • Experience working with Ethernet or fiber cables, troubleshooting computer hardware and rack mounted network switches/routers and servers.

  • Available for on-call duties up to 24/7days a week and to be ability to travel between locations.

    Preferred Special Skills, Knowledge or Qualifications

  • Associates degree in computer science.

  • Knowledge of asset management, auditing, daily work log/ticket tracking, service offerings; customer service principles; various computer software applications, PCs, operating systems, and other computer-related technologies.

  • Proficient in use of data center operations tools to support installation, moves, change, decommission of physical assets located within data centers.

  • Previous experience tracking and maintaining data center & IT assets within Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) software.

Major Accountabilities

1) Under general supervision, perform rack and stack responsibilities for installation, mounting, move, change, decommission of physical servers, network devices, and other hardware components aligned with data center standards and industry best practices.

2) Support general cleaning on raised floor, cabinet/rack exterior surfaces, work benches and other areas as needed on a regular basis, and support standard and emergency operating procedures for data center.

3) Review engineering design to ensure compliance with internal and external design standards and coordinate equipment/material receiving, shipping and RMA processing support as/when required.

4) Perform routine equipment maintenance, facilities management, and perform emergency repairs as needed or directed.

5) Plan and implement effective cable management strategies, including labeling, routing, organizing power and data cables.

6) Perform record keeping and inventory management activities using data center management and work management tools. Support senior technicians in maintaining inventory management systems with details of equipment status, location, and supporting meta data supporting capacity or space management activities.

7) Track and report progress on assignments and coordinate incoming project requests with requestors and collaborate with cross-functional teams to support data center operations.

8) Provide assistance to engineering personnel and manufacturer representatives in the evaluation and testing of new equipment, including the development/implementation of test procedures and/or the design and construction of specialized configurations.

9) Produce reports, perform operational readings including status reporting regarding data center service availability, performance, power usage, space and capacity utilization as required.

10) Maintain full compliance with all regulatory requirements, safety policies, procedures and standards and perform all work in a safe manner.

Flex Role:

This position is not required to be performed at a specific APS facility as long as adequate technology and a solid ergonomic set up are present. Pending agreement with leadership, employees hired into this role will be able to choose where they prefer to perform their work, but the ultimate decision is the company's. Employees will have two options to choose from:

  • APS office based: The employee prefers to work most of the time from an APS facility.

  • Home based: The employee prefers to work most of the time from his/her home.

    *Employees in Flex roles are required to reside in Arizona (or NM for Four Corners-based employees). Role types are subject to change based on business need.
