The CNC Machinist & Prototype Technician is responsible for fabricating high-precision prototypes using CNC technology and manual machining methods. This role includes programming, fixturing, setup, and operation of CNC equipment, and supporting product development through collaboration with engineering teams.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Program, set up, and operate CNC equipment (Haas VF1) to fabricate precision parts from drawings and solid models.

  • Utilize manual machining equipment (mill, lathe, surface grinder) when necessary.

  • Collaborate with engineers to discuss product designs, capacity, and material selections for parts fabrication.

  • Interpret technical specifications, blueprints, and sketches to plan layouts and determine machining operations.

  • Perform basic plate layouts for self-inspection and quality control.

  • Select appropriate materials and tooling for upcoming projects.

  • Monitor inventory levels and procure materials, tools, and consumables as needed, ensuring timely availability for production without disruptions.

  • Maintain machines, perform preventive maintenance, and ensure a clean and organized prototype shop.

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying process enhancements and recommending new tools or technologies to improve efficiency and quality.

  • Ensure all safety protocols are followed, and contribute to a safe working environment.

  • Complete other duties as assigned.

    ADDITIONAL LEARNING EXPECTATIONS:

  • Develop proficiency in creating CAM programs using HSM Works.

  • Learn to create fixturing models in SolidWorks and fabricate weldment assemblies.

  • Fit and assemble parts into functional prototypes.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education & Experience:

  • Minimum of 10 years of machining and programming experience.

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent technical education through a two-year college, trade school, or apprenticeship.

    Required Skills:

  • Proficiency in MS Office.

  • Strong understanding of CNC machining, manual machining, and machining processes.
