Mission Rock Residential Remote Senior Property Accountant - Acquisitions in Phoenix, Arizona

General Purpose

This Senior Accountant role is primarily responsible for the onboarding of multifamily assets during acquisitions. During transition periods, this role is also responsible for meeting the financial and reporting requirements of properties, in accordance with the property management agreement, with a high level of accuracy and professionalism. This Senior Accountant will report directly to the Controller and will collaborate daily with property managers, the transactions team, and property owners.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review cost segregation studies, settlement statements, and other financial information to propose and record opening journal entries.

  • Review, prepare, and analyze proration workbooks in a timely manner, facilitating input and approval from various stakeholders.

  • Leverage critical thinking and advanced Excel skills to analyze large datasets, validate and reconcile data, perform GL mapping, resolve variances, and set up accounting workbooks.

  • Responsible for the full cycle accounting and month-end close during transitions, including general ledger account analysis, bank reconciliations, and balance sheet account reconciliations.

  • Analyze property cash positions weekly, collaborating with property management to review and select payables. Ensure timely and accurate payment of high-priority payments such as taxes, mortgages, and distributions.

  • Produce ad-hoc reports and analyses, including cash forecasts, and calculate and reconcile CAM charges, percent rent, and management fees, as applicable.

  • Serve as the main accounting contact for the various ownership groups and the sites during the transition.

  • Interact with property staff, clients, and other stakeholders to resolve property accounting questions by researching and interpreting accounting policy and financial information.

  • Facilitate hand-off meetings with team members to ensure seamless transition once a property has been fully onboarded.

  • Document client specific policies and procedures as needed. Verify and document approval of client specific instructions.

  • Ensure all documentation, such as bank transfer request and journal entry support, is prepared, organized, and stored in accordance with company policy.

  • Identify opportunities for automation to streamline accounting and reporting processes.

  • Prioritize exceptional customer service and maintain professionalism in all interactions.

  • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Comply with company policies, accounting procedures, and applicable local, state, and federal laws.

  • Perform other duties as assigned or as necessary.

    Job Qualifications

Knowledge:

  • Prior experience and advanced knowledge in the application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)

  • Prior experience and knowledge in the reading, understanding and analysis of financial statements

  • Solid analytical/logical mindset and attention to detail

    Skills:

  • Advance skill level with Microsoft Excel

  • Intermediate skill level with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Teams

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Proven experience to meet deadlines timely, accurately, and consistently

  • Proven experience to effectively manage a team

  • Strong technical accounting skills

    Ability:

  • Ability to complete tasks accurately, timely and consistently

  • Ability to follow established procedures

  • Ability to ready, understand and analyze financial statements

  • Ability to communicate complex accounting and financial data into easily understandable verbiage

  • Ability to learn accounting software

  • Capable of working independently

    Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years accounting experience in real estate

  • Intercompany accounting experience is highly desired

  • Experience with Yardi is highly desired

  • Experience in cash management, forecasting and planning

    Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required from an accredited four-year college or university
