The candidate will work closely with Dr. Andrew Yang (PI of Human Neurophysiology & Neuromodulation [HNN] Lab) and Dr. Leon Iasemidis (Brain Dynamics Lab [BDL]) on a variety of interdisciplinary projects with a core focus on computationally-intensive analysis of big human electrophysiology datasets. Initial appointment is for one year and renewal for the future years is possible contingent upon satisfactory performance.

This is a full-time benefits-eligible appointment. Salary is competitive and travel reimbursement for academic conferences is possible. Research Area Description HNN utilizes direct recordings within the human brain combined with behavioral tasks naturalistic stimuli and intracranial stimulation to understand the core circuit mechanisms and computational principles underlying our cognitive and emotional abilities. The overarching goal is to provide translational links between human neurophysiology and clinical neuromodulation to guide the rational design of next-generation brain stimulation therapies for epilepsy as well as investigative indications in cognitive and psychiatric diseases. HNN has multiple collaborations with faculty throughout both Barrow and ASU in engineering computer science neuroscience and psychology.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

The post-doc will serve as a project leader focused on the study of population-level and single-unit electrophysiology that underlie cognitive and affective processes that are uniquely human as well as their derangements in disorders such as epilepsy.

Experiments are conducted in human patients who are implanted with stereoencephalography (sEEG) electrodes (during inpatient admissions for seizure monitoring) or novel neuromodulation devices that allow sensing concurrent with stimulation for neurologic disease such as epilepsy.

Primary duties will include data collection and analysis as well as developing scientific ideas and writing grant applications and manuscripts.

The post-doc will also have an integral role in training and supervising junior lab members particularly as it relates to software and hardware solutions for data storage as well as maintenance and design of data and image processing pipelines.
