This position is a combination of an electronic engineering technician and a test engineer. This role conducts tests, sets up and operates equipment, experiments, gathers data, builds prototypes units, and testing equipment. Maintains and calibrates standards and equipment and devises new testing methods. Drafts procedures and records laboratory notes and other pertinent details. Provides technical direction and training to other engineers. This role also modifies existing test equipment software and test procedures in support of engineering changes and new test equipment. Works in accordance with general objectives, improving and refining devices and methods, as necessary.

As a Sr. Electronic Engineering Technician at Collins Aerospace, you will be responsible for performing electronic troubleshooting and analysis of various components, products, PWAs, and test equipment. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the quality and functionality of electronic products and test equipment for the APU product family. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting engineering activities for sustaining and new product introduction, as well as operations and repair.

What You Will Do

  • Troubleshoot, program, repair, replace and install control boards, components, units and equipment as required

  • Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required activities

  • Set up and operate equipment and processes such as adjusting, rebuilding and modifying test setups and associated fixtures

  • Maintain and calibrate standards and equipment and devise new testing methods

  • Install, setup and test electronic control systems

  • Maintain accurate records of test results and product performance

  • Review assembly diagrams, blueprints, schematics to determine mistakes in electronic prototype assemblies, pre-production assemblies, test installations, and provide viable suggestions and or solutions

  • Operate and maintain electronic systems and all associated peripherals and test equipment

  • Recommend changes in circuitry and installation specifications to simplify assembly and maintenance

  • Set up standard testing equipment to conduct functional and operational tests, aimed at evaluating performance to specified requirements

  • Analyze and interpret test data, devise and implement correlating solutions and resolutions to problems with units and equipment

  • Lay out, build, test and troubleshoot electronic and electrical components, equipment and units

  • Discuss layouts and assembly procedures with electronics engineers to create a solid plan of action

  • Provide unscheduled or emergency repairs of production equipment as required

  • Perform inspections on electronic equipment and components to determine problems and need for troubleshooting

  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical systems including controls and test equipment as required

  • Install, start up and shut down equipment and units to test their functionality according to requirements

  • Assemble electronic systems based on established technical specifications and ensure that correlating repair and maintenance needs are fulfilled

  • Create cable and wiring connections in a safe and accurate manner, and perform regular inspections to identify defects and replacements

  • Provide recommendations for upgrades and modifications to test equipment and systems to improve system performance, reliability and maintenance

  • Develop prototypes to provide feasibility analysis and conduct correlating product analysis

  • Create and maintain inventory of tools and equipment required for testing and repairing purposes

  • Work with engineering to establish test techniques for new product during development and to resolve product or equipment problems, and may install, characterize and/or design equipment

  • Perform tests on electronic equipment and analyze and interpret test data, creating reports for review as required

  • Provide support in adjusting, calibrating and aligning components and units and record performance metrics

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field or in absence of a degree, 6 years of relevant experience

  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract ​

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Experience with aerospace electrical products

  • Experience with electronic test and development equipment including power supplies, function generators, oscilloscopes, voltmeters, and soldering

  • Troubleshoot, program, repair, replace and install control boards, components, units and equipment

  • Experience with design and test software, such as LabVIEW, VB6, Python, MATLAB, Simulink, or have Software programming skills

The salary range for this role is 64,000 USD - 128,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
