The Louisiana Special Schools are experiencing a critical shortage of certified teachers, school counselors, interpreters and educators of the Deaf or hard of hearing.

The LA SPECIAL SCHOOL DISTRICT is seeking applicants for a

SPEECH THERAPIST.

This position is located in PINEVILLE, LA at PINECREST SUPPORTS AND SERVICES CENTER.

Physical Activity Level:

The employee must be able to perform assigned duties without significant risk of substantial harm to his/her own safety/security and the safety/security of others. Some work is performed in physically comfortable positions with little or light physical effort, and some work requires moderate effort. Lifting thirty to forty pounds may be required and brief periods of heavy muscular exertion may be required. Interpreting/and transliterating, and teaching visually impaired students, require extended use of the upper body muscles and fine motor movements of the hands. Physical requirements are subject to reasonable accommodation in accordance with ADA standards.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Speech Pathology with a Certificate of Clinical Competency-Speech (CCC-SP) issued by the American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA).

  • Must meet the ancillary certification and licensure requirements of the State of Louisiana as a Speech Pathologist; Speech and Language Hearing Specialist; or Speech Therapist.

Job Concepts

  • Conduct individual speech/language/communication skills evaluations on students.

  • Participate in pre- and post-staffing of the students served.

  • Observe the students in the classroom and dormitory environments.

  • Meet with colleagues, classroom teachers and/or students to facilitate progress toward Individual Education Plan (IEP) communication goals.

  • Develop and update annually the communication curriculum area of each child’s IEP as mandated by P.L. 94-142 and Louisiana Act 754; attend IEP meetings when appropriate.

  • Coordinate scheduling of students for communication skills services according to Act 754 Regulations

  • Prepare and submit lesson plans to meet IEP goals.

  • Use available curriculum materials, equipment, and facilities in the teaching/learning process in a variety of approaches/techniques to meet individual student psycho-social educational needs.

  • Demonstrate skillful and creative use of instructional aids and materials.

  • Demonstrate assessment and evaluation skills
