Caterpillar Inc. seeks Autonomy Engineering Specialist at its facility located at 105 47th Street, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 15201.

Job Description: Direct and participate in efforts to develop, integrate, or test complex autonomy systems that meet prioritized requirements and time frame constraints for autonomous machine programs focusing on machine safety and productivity, providing a differentiated product value to our customers. Direct and develop solutions for complex autonomy problems using systems focus and define and execute consistent development and test processes that will be shared and used by the extended team. Role focuses on technical project delivery on complex programs. Work closely with other Caterpillar engineering teams, Engineering Support groups, and customers. Work with other teams and help remove roadblocks for issues that cross multiple organizations. Utilize development skills requiring a combination of system design and application development skills. A strong focus on the technical needs in the autonomy area will likely include expertise in Path Planning, Perception and Positioning Technologies. Keep up to date with the fast-paced autonomy industry and pertinent technologies to help decide which technologies are ready for deployment. Develop innovative and creative solutions, as well as possess skills necessary to solve complex issues spanning multiple subsystems. Technical leadership skills are essential to the position. The role’s focus is strongly technical, but some project management skills may also be required. Mentor and train other engineers to help grow the overall team skill set. Manage their own development and keep up with industry trends and new technology breakthroughs through self/internet study as well as interaction with other autonomous engineers through conferences and papers. Telecommuting: 2.5 days/week. Travel Requirements: 5% domestic travel.

Requirements : This position requires a master’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or a related field, plus 4 years of experience in Robotics and Software Development or related occupation. Additionally, the applicant must have employment experience with: (1) Software Design; (2) Software Development and Testing Processes in Production Environment; (3) Object-Oriented Programming (C++ or similar); (4) Cross-team Project Management; and (5) Development and Delivery of Sensing and/or Automation Features.
