POWER Clinical Supervisor in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

This position provides clinical supervision for the team at POWER House – a 26-bed residential treatment program for women with substance use and co-occurring disorders. It’s licensed by DDAP as a Halfway House (ASAM 3.1 level of care). The Clinical Supervisor works closely with the Program Manager to structure an environment that supports gender-responsive and trauma-informed care and promotes POWER’s core values. They oversee the clinical functions of the treatment team staff and ensure quality care for clients. The Clinical Supervisor provides clinical and administrative supervision to Program Therapists/Counselors, a Case Manager, and program interns and provides clinical oversight and consultation to all members of the Treatment Team.  

The Clinical Supervisor may also carry a caseload of up to 5 clients, as needed, and provides direct care including individual, family and group therapy. The Clinical Supervisor works closely with the Program Manager, Clinical Director, and Consulting Psychiatrist/Medical Director to provide leadership and clinical direction for the program. The Clinical Supervisor is a member of POWER’s management team. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Direct and manage clinical service delivery, which may include client biopsychosocial assessment; group and individual psychotherapy; family education, counseling, and support; treatment planning; and discharge planning. 

  • Provide clinical skills assessment of and supervision to Therapists/Counselors, Case Manager and interns, and any other assigned direct reports.  

  • Facilitate and Supervise weekly Clinical Treatment Team meetings and Case Consultations. 

  • Guide development of treatment plans and monitor plans and plan reviews to determine whether clients' goals are being met and/or clinicians’ plans are timely and effective. 

  • Review clinical documentation, ensure integrity of EMR (Electronic Medical Record), and complete all electronic service approvals for direct reports within the required timeframes.  

  • Work collaboratively with the Manager and Finance Department to ensure accurate records of services for timely reimbursement. 

  • Complete regular QA (Quality Assurance) activities, including chart audits to ensure clinical documentation is up to standard and in compliance with all regulatory and funding requirements. 

  • Ensure the professional development of Therapists, interns, and program staff, and assist with hiring, onboarding, and training staff. Facilitate completion of Training Surveys and Individual Training Plans. 

  • Complete performance evaluations and review performance with assigned staff; assess clinical training needs of clinicians and review results with Program Manager. 

  • Administer, interpret, operationalize, and ensure compliance with policies and procedures, including DDAP (Department of Drug & Alcohol Programs), requirements and regulations, ASAM (American Society of Addiction Medicine) criteria, CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities) standards, and all other regulatory and funding requirements. 

  • Maintain the highest standards of ethical, legal, and moral practices, and help staff integrate solutions to legal and ethical issues into clinical practice. 

  • Function autonomously and use appropriate judgment in the analysis and problem solving of daily and crisis situations. 

  • Work with the Consulting Psychiatrist/Medical Director to ensure that clients’ behavioral health needs are being addressed and help to facilitate and integrate the psychiatrist’s recommendations. Ensure all medication changes are properly documented in MARs. 

  • Maintain regular contact with client and service provider during any in-patient hospitalization(s), rehabilitation, or respite stay(s); and contact funding source when a break in service occurs. 

  • Carry a small caseload and provide direct care/therapy services to up to five (5) clients. (e.g., conduct screening and assessments, refer clients to the appropriate treatment programs and agencies, and provide bio-psychosocial assessments, individual and group therapy, family education and counseling, SUD and MH education and life skills development classes.  

Requirements 

  • Master's degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or related field and a minimum of five (5) years of clinical experience in a behavioral health setting, at least two (2) of which have been as a supervisor. 

  • LPC or LCSW licensure required or in process.  

  • Personal recovery experience is not required, however, if the candidate has lived experience, they must have at least four (4) years in recovery. 

  • Knowledge and understanding of substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders and of recovery support systems are required. 

  • Experience in a women-centered treatment environment and/or with gender-responsive and trauma-informed care is preferred. 

  • Experience with motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapies, including DBT, is preferred. 

  • Understands and supports a trauma-informed system of care. 

  • Highly effective interpersonal and engagement skills. 

  • Self-directed and flexible to meet the needs of clients and colleagues. 

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills. 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 

  • Ability to support the agency’s mission and philosophy and demonstrate sensitivity to cultural diversity and workplace harmony. 

  • Value for and ability to deliver excellent customer service. 

  • On-call rotation required and some evening/weekend availability to meet the needs of clients. 

  • Good computer skills; previous experience with an EMR system required. 

  • Ability to obtain FBI, Act 33 and 34 Clearances. 

  • Support health and wellness activities and model healthy coping skills. 

Working Conditions:  

  • Ability to work in POWER’s various program sites and offices. 

  • Ability to work the hours necessary to complete the work. 

  • Ability to work in a 4-story facility, including stairs, and lift light boxes.
