THE UNIVERSITY OF PITTSBURGH ASSISTANT PROFESSOR
RANK/TITLE: Assistant Professor 1-5 years of experience nontenure/Appt.stream
DEPARTMENT/DIVISION: The University of Pittsburgh, Department of Pathology, Division of Experimental Pathology
DESCRIPTION OF WORK: The successful candidate will lead bioinformatics and biostatistical analyses for data generated at the High Throughput Genome Center in the Department of Pathology. The responsibilities will include constructing bioinformatic pipelines for pre-clinical and clinical projects, particularly within Dr. Luo's laboratory. The candidate is also expected to initiate independent and collaborative research efforts within the Department of Pathology and across other departments at the University of Pittsburgh. In addition, the candidate will teach bioinformatics-related courses in the graduate school at the University of Pittsburgh and will contribute to the mentorship of students and trainees. She /He will participate in departmental and university service activities, including faculty meetings, committees, and initiatives that promote the department's academic and research goals.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Degree Required: Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, or a related field.
Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in bioinformatics and biostatistics, with expertise in human genome analysis, particularly in prostate cancer and liver cancer research.
Experience with Affymetrix SNP array, gene expression array, Illumina transcriptome sequencing, whole genome sequencing, and epigenome analyses is essential.
Post-doctoral training: At least 1 year of post-doctoral experience in bioinformatics or biostatistics is required.
Technical Expertise: Proficiency in genome data analysis tools and the development of bioinformatics pipelines.
Leadership & Management: Supervisory experience overseeing up to 15 non-student employees and post-doctoral fellows is expected.
Collaboration & Communication: Strong communication skills and a demonstrated ability to collaborate across departments and with various stakeholders.
Research: Proven track record of research with a strong publication record.
