UPMC Lead Family Development Specialist in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Allegheny County Department of Human Services (DHS) has established a network of 27 family support centers of which UPMC Children?s Family Care Connection (FCC) has 6 centers located in neighborhoods that are under served. This network will provide family support direct social supports service to families with children from birth to 18 years old from diverse backgrounds according to the level of need to a population of serious and persistent consumers. DHS Family Support Network has embarked on a process to serve more families, from 2020-2030. The guiding principles are to create a network that would serve more families, in the ways the families find value, through strengthened and effective partnerships, and to achieve measurable goals. The primary function of the Family Development Specialist is to meet the family where they are and provide these prevention services to help encourage families to establish personal goals, cope with challenges of residing in high need communities, and establish habits and behaviors that yield positive outcomes for their families.

Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh is hiring a Lead Family Development Specialist to work at our Family Resource Center at 5235 Butler Street.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for developing trusting relationships and providing direct services for 15- 20, non-home visiting and home visiting families. Responsible for gathering input from other FDS and reporting out on one of the FCC goals annually. Provide crisis intervention and/or referrals for families. Utilize and develop peer support on the Coach/Relate principles to help staff work with families. Participates in special events, holiday celebrations and field trips to interact with families and building trusting relationships. Provides advocacy and referrals for services such as early intervention, housing, health, and mental health working with our Behavior Therapist and Housing Coordinator. Participates in reflective supervision with Program Coordinator as needed. Will mentor and be peer support to new Senior FDS. Attends all internal and community meetings and conferences. After staff are formally trained on various curriculums and Synergy processes, the Lead will help them with concerns when County staff may not be available. Collaborates with community partners with working on community-wide events. Other duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor's degree in human services or related field.

  • 7+ years experience in Family Development or 2 years supervisory or leadership experience.

  • Knowledge of social service systems in Allegheny County.

  • Understand the FCC and County protocol for mandated reporters.

  • Sensitivity to work with a multi-cultural community.

  • Ability to work evening and occasional weekend hours. Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.

  • Valid Driver's License.

  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal

  • Act 33 with renewal

  • Act 34 with renewal

  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
