Squirrel Hill Health Center Medical Billing and Coding Specialist in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Squirrel Hill Health Center is a comprehensive primary healthcare center established in 2006 to deliver high quality, affordable healthcare, including dental and behavioral care, regardless of income level or insurance status. We have an opportunity for a Billing and Coding Specialist within our finance department. The ideal candidate will have integrity, be well versed in insurance rules and regulations, able to work remotely in a very collaborative team environment, be adaptable, and pay great attention to detail.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for the timely and accurate Coding and data entry of patient billing information.

  • Assist with the follow-up of A/R, including self-pay and/or the resolution of denials.

  • Provide assistance to staff and patients regarding billing issues and problem resolution in a courteous and timely manner.

  • Participate in development of organization procedures and update of forms and manuals related to the revenue cycle.

  • Run and analyze assigned reports to ensure completion and accuracy of billing processes.

  • Collaborate with billing team in the planning, implementation, administration, and evaluation of projects to increase/improve billing processes.

  • Maintain up to date knowledge of Medicare/Medicaid/Commercial Insurers and other program updates including ICD-10/CPT and HIPAA.

  • Perform other necessary duties as assigned.

    This position is hybrid after initial onsite training. A HIPAA compliant workspace is required as well as the ability to manage electronic communications effectively, responsibly, and professionally.

    The position may require additional training or coverage on-site as needed.

    Qualifications: 

  • All CDC recommended vaccines required, including most recent COVID vaccine.

  • Minimum of 5 years medical billing/coding/AR experience in physician-based office required

  • Primary Care, Dental, Behavioral Health, OBGYN or FQHC experience a plus

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel

  • Excellent communication skills, including writing/speaking/active listening

  • NextGen experience strongly preferred

  • CPC or equivalent preferred
