The Museum Store Supervisor executes the Store's mission of enhancing the visitor experience through expert customer service and driving sales revenue to support museum programs. Will lead all store associates in greeting and engaging visitors in dialogue, providing them with information about our products and services. Responsible for Museum Store operations including scheduling, training, developing, supervising and directing sales associates. Duties include store opening and closing functions, balancing cash drawers, review / approve or completes store daily deposits, safe contents, inventory control and visual merchandising. Maintains excellent communications with Store Buyer, receiving associates and CMP staff.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCES:

  • Must be high school graduate or equivalent.
  • Prefer at least one year managerial experience in retail management with emphasis on personnel management, motivation, merchandising and inventory control.
  • Computer point of sale, personal computer, calculator, fax machine, copy machine, dolly for transporting merchandise.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Must be friendly, outgoing and enjoy interacting with a diverse visitor base and work force.
  • Excellent customer service skills required, including problem solving. Strong communication and interpersonal skills with ability to interact and present to Store and Museum Upper Management.
  • Solid organizational and written skills, timely follow through and attention to detail.
  • Exercise independent judgment and creative thinking.
  • Ability to handle a variety of tasks, processing mental and emotional stability necessary to deal with simultaneous demands.
  • Knowledge or appreciation of art preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Job involves walking and standing for long periods of time, the ability to lift and transport boxes (up to 30 pounds), climb ladders, stoop, bend, work in confined, tight spaces and handle stock.
  • Varied schedule including most weekends, holidays and some evenings.
  • The ability to provide excellent customer service as well as to multi-task the demands of the position.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Drive sales and customer service through modeling behaviors and managing effective selling teams in concert with the Store Buyer Manager.
  • Skillfully resolves customer concerns and employee conflict in courteous manner.
  • Supervises sales team, provides leadership, direction and development of sales associates, including scheduling, training, disciplining and motivating.
  • Proactively learns about exhibitions and events in order to share knowledge with sales teams.
  • Analyzes daily operational needs and distributes work assignments throughout the store, establishing priorities and deadlines.
  • May conduct meetings with staff to keep them informed of new policies, procedures, merchandise, special events and activities of the day.
  • Responsible for daily operations, opening, closing, cash reports and deposits, audits and safe counts directly or through the supervision and training of others.
  • Maintains tight ash control.
  • Assists Store Buyer Manager with maintaining visual merchandising to maximize sales and profits.
  • Trains store staff in displaying merchandise within established guidelines.
  • Keeps store stocked appropriately.
  • Communicates needs and special requests to Buyer.
  • Maintains the highest level of store appearance, including cleanliness and neatness.
  • Maintains store back office and stockrooms in orderly fashion.
  • Determines and maintains proper storage of product in stockroom and understock areas for ease of selling, avoiding damage and breakage.
  • With Buyer Manager plans and executes physical inventory process.
  • Verifies count and quality of merchandise deliveries to store. Prices according to receiving documents.
  • Attends supervisor meetings and other meetings as required by the Buyer Manager.
  • Performs all functions of Sales Associate position
  • Displays courtesy and sensitivity in dealing with the public.
  • Projects the image and attitude of The Carnegie Museums.

The following PA Act 153 clearances, or proof of application of clearances, are required beginning employment and as a condition of continued employment: Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check FBI Fingerprint Criminal Background Check Obtaining the required clearances is completed as part of the new hire process.
