Research Technician

The Mendoza-Halliday Lab is currently seeking candidates for a Research Technician position (2 years or more) in the field of Cognitive Neurophysiology. We use high-count multi-area neuronal recordings & optogenetics to investigate how neurons generate, monitor, and transform mental representations in working memory. The Lab is affiliated with the Department of Neuroscience at the University of Pittsburgh. Duties include acquiring, setting up, and running electronic equipment and computer hardware and software for the acquisition and analysis of electrophysiological and behavioral data, computer programming of behavioral tasks and data analyses in Matlab software, and training new lab members in the use of these hardware and software tools. Candidates with an academic background in Neuroscience (or related field in Biological Sciences, Medicine, or Engineering) and experience working with electronic equipment, computer programming, software, and hardware are particularly encouraged to apply. Initial training and close supervision will be provided by the principal investigator. The position is ideal for candidates interested in technical research work in a Cognitive Neurophysiology lab or in gaining research experience as preparation for future PhD Program applications. Job Summary

 

Performs a variety of independent laboratory work and experiments such as determining experimental protocols and preparation of specimens and cultures. Prepares reports of findings subsequent to compilation and analyzation. Oversees specimen inventory. Develops documentation for publication; crafts manuscripts and grant proposals.

 

Essential Functions

Acquiring, setting up, and running electrophysiological and behavioral data collection electronic equipment and computers. Programming computer scripts in Matlab/Python to establish a standard and versatile analysis pipeline for electrophysiological and behavioral data.

Physical Effort

Transporting large NHPs (9-15 kg) between home cage and experimental setup room using wheeled transport box: maximum two times a day.
