Carnegie Mellon University Senior Director of Facilities and Space Planning - Division of Student Affairs in PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania

Reference #: 2021676 Carnegie Mellon University's Division of Student Affairs is searching for a Senior Director of Facilities and Space planning to join their team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in an interesting and challenging work environment. You will contribute to the division by being responsible for and overseeing all Student Affairs facilities, project management including space planning, , budgeting, and project scheduling for 1.7M sq ft. of Student Affairs facilities. This position is required to live in an on-campus residence. Core responsibilities include:

Leading capital and non-capital projects - defining the scope of professional services, participating in the development design and specifications, participating in projects from initiation through construction, including new construction and renovation of existing properties. Ensures building startup is acceptable for users.

Works collaboratively with Facilities Management Services (FMS) and Student Affairs Facility Directors on upkeep of University assets. Develops work order response time standards to enhance the customer experience and satisfaction.

Strategizes with Campus Design and Facility Development to ensure coordination of projects, construction and maintenance work. Communicates with Student Affairs collaborators on project statuses.

Monitors projects initiated by facilities team to create a cohesive physical and branding experience across Student Affairs. Develops furniture, fixture and equipment design standards for Student Affairs spaces.

Ensures division is aligned with government and University standards involving health and safety.

Works with AVP to estimate and plan budget projections for: projects, maintenance, capital, equipment and supplies.

Develops and maintains capital project schedule for student affairs facilities.

Develops standards to ensure facilities are prepared for student move-in, opening of dining venues, and other facilities related programs as delivered/monitored by Facilities Team.

Candidate must live in an on-campus residence and respond to on-campus emergencies as needed

Supervises Facilities Team

Performs all administrative staffing processes such as hiring, coaching, initiating disciplinary actions, and completing yearly staff performance appraisals for direct reports

Provides direction and development opportunities to direct reports.

Meets with employees on a regular basis to maintain a positive morale throughout the department. Promote a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Project planning, scheduling, and budget management throughout the project cycle are essential skills

Proven project management skills and knowledge related to facilities and custodial operations; experience managing facilities budgets with tracking and forecasting expenditures and maintaining adequate controls; exceptional collaboration, consultation and negotiation skills Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in business administration, engineering, facilities management or a related field required

10-15 years of progressively responsible experience in project management or facilities management required; Expertise with contracts and budgets, maintenance, project management, inventory control, and customer service is required; Higher Education experience is preferred

A combination of education and relevant experience from which comp rable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered. Requirements:

Work Posture: This position is eligible to be considered for some remote work flexibility.

Typical Work Schedule: Monday-Friday from 8:30-5:00pm. An alternate work schedule allowing for evening and weekend hours will be required on occasion.
