CSP Labs is seeking a self-motivated, detail-oriented DNA/RNA Extraction Technician to join our molecular biology laboratory for a 3-month term. The incumbent will be responsible for prepping plant samples for DNA/RNA extractions and for carrying out DNA/RNA extractions.

Responsibilities

• Independently follow SOPs (standard operating procedures), verbal and written instructions to complete routine laboratory work
• Prepare plant samples for DNA/RNA extraction: add buffer, grind, centrifuge, and transfer supernatant
• Carry out through-put vacuum-based DNA and RNA extractions: up to six 96- well plates per day
• Operate various types of equipment such as multichannel pipettors, grinders, centrifuges, 96-well head liquid handler, peristaltic pump, cold room, fridge, freezer, etc.
• Liquid handling with pipettes
• Basic record keeping
• Maintain consumables inventory: track, order, unbox, and stock
• Basic lab chores (make buffers, autoclave materials/trash, etc.) and general lab housekeeping (wash glassware, clean and tidy work area, etc.)
• Assist with other lab tasks or processes as needed

Key Requirements

• Must be willing to perform repetitive tasks for extended periods of time
• Can be trained to carry out basic steps of routine protocols with little to no supervision
• Proactive listener/learner: asks questions to ensure clarity
• Good organizational and time management skills - can independently plan and complete multiple tasks on time
• Must be a team player and respectful to others
• Possesses good math skills (basic arithmetic and algebra)
• Proficient in computer use (Gmail, MSOffice)
• Fluent in verbal and written English
• Must be able to stand for extended periods of time and lift to 40 lbs.
• Bachelor of Science/Arts in a biology related field
