What you will be doing
As the Senior Steering System Product Engineer within our division based at our R&D facility in , you will be responsible for overseeing the design, development, and implementation of steering system solutions for our products. Your steering system solutions will be expected to encompass commonization and simplification using Lean and Six Sigma techniques, meet or exceed customer expectations, perform for the desired warranty period, and comply with regulatory requirements. You will also participate in a variety product and mechanical projects through the design, prototyping, validation, launch, documentation, and reporting phases. You will also be accountable for: Producing prototypes, validating, launching, documenting, and reporting on mechanical and product projects in partnership with other Shyft teams, suppliers, and customers Meeting design specifications by applying your knowledge of mechanical engineering, materials, structural mechanics, and design for manufacturability Optimizing design trade-offs for functionality, usability, cost, and risk Delivering high-quality engineering deliverables for major model programs, beginning with program planning, and ending with start of production Applying systems engineering methods and using tools such as Boundary Diagrams, P-Diagrams, and DFMEA for concept development, cascading requirements, and scoping Authoring documentation to support design and risk management activities Providing prototyping support for early-stage development work on a project basis Developing tests and methods, performing test protocols, and writing reports Ensuring suppliers meet key milestones for prototype gate reviews and validation dates Gathering documents for sourcing and providing expertise in the purchasing process Building an Engineering tree and creating a corresponding model that adheres to customer and vehicle specifications Implementing engineering changes, solving manufacturing problems, and supporting warranty issue resolution Leveraging Teamcenter to research product specification history and structure for component parts and product compatibility Relocation assistance is available to the Plymouth, MI area for non-local candidates. 5+ years of functional mechanical engineering expertise within a manufacturing setting and a completed Bachelor's degree in
