Shire is looking for a Senior Accountant - General Ledger to join our Finance Team in Warsaw, Poland.

Senior Accountant - General Ledger (Record to Report) (m/f)

The Senior Accountant - General Ledger (R2R) will be a major contributor to the financial close process and financial reporting for ECEMEA markets, Poland and Czech Republic. He/she will be responsible for contributing to the production of accurate and timely reporting of monthly / quarterly / annual results. The Senior Accountant will bear responsibility for certain aspects of the financial accounting results through Financial Statement reconciliations, analysis and monthly journal entries. All activities of this position will be performed in conformance with our established policies and any other applicable regulatory requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Processing accounting entries in GL of Baxalta GmbH (ECEMEA markets), Poland and Czech

  • Ensuring appropriate documentation is in place to support the JE related to revenue deferrals, accruals for commission and rebates, accruals for credit notes and other AP - cost related, payroll related and any other GL accruals.

  • Cooperating with Commercial Finance Team and Controllers - especially over the month end closing period to obtain information necessary for processing of the month end closing entries

  • Processing f/x revaluation in SAP for Poland and Czech

  • Loading payroll files, reconciliations with external provider when required

  • Loading SAP balances to HFM for Poland and Czech, follow up on mismatches, mapping issues.

  • Maintaining chart of accounts, cost centers in SAP, ensuring correct mapping to HFM

  • Communication of changes in GL, cost centers, profit centers, etc to stakeholders

  • Reconciliation of SAP and HFM balances at month end

  • Manage opening and closing of accounting periods within the GL for Poland and Czech

  • Preparing Blackline reconciliations of GL accounts, obtaining all required approvals

  • Preparing Blackline documentation to support manual journal entries, obtaining approvals and ensuring controls are in place.

  • Providing documentation to support GL entries and balances to external and internal auditors

  • Cooperation with Polish, Czech and Baxalta GmbH controllers to ensure accounting compliance

  • Participation in balance sheet reviews and supporting process of preparing statutory financial statements

  • Preparing work instructions and process descriptions in ref. to GL processes when required

  • Participation in finance and SSC projects.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • University degree required (degree in Finance and/or accounting is preferred but not a must),

  • Prior experience as part of an accounting team within a global company is preferred.

  • 3 years of working experience in accounting, of which 2 years are specifically gained in General Ledger accounting

KEY SKILLS & COMPETIENCIES:

  • Strong knowledge of MS Excel. Functional ability in Word and PowerPoint. Familiarity with MS Access would also be a plus.

  • The ability to handle ambiguity and work effectively in a constantly changing environment are critical.

  • Experience with SAP is a strong plus, as well as experience with Concur, Hyperion Financial Manager (HFM) and Blackline software.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are needed. Must have the ability to interact with peers as well as management throughout the Company. Building relationships will be a key success factor for this position.

  • The successful candidate will at times be the first person people encounter when contacting the Finance Team. As a result of this visibility, he/she must ensure all communications and interactions are professional, courteous and show a desire to be of service.

  • A demonstrated customer service focus will be critical for this position. This is a service organization and that will require the highest commitment to understanding customer needs and meeting/exceeding their expectations.

  • The successful candidate needs to be able to work in a fast paced environment, be creative, be energetic and be enthusiastic.
