Job Summary:

The Senior Construction Manager will be responsible for overseeing inspectors, contractors and activities related to planning, inspection, and design reviews of construction and maintenance projects and managing his or her own tasks. The Senior Construction Manager role requires an experienced leader who is capable of balancing multiple responsibilities and concurrent activities and initiatives. The Senior Construction Manager will be an expert in the field, understanding customer needs and the goals for projects to enhance service/safety, as well as staying current on the latest technologies which, combined with lessons learned, allows personnel to leverage and develop practical solutions for their rail network.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Manage multiple Construction Managers and large rail infrastructure projects.

  • 10 years of experience or better managing railroad State of Good Repair Projects for commuter, passenger, or class 1 railroad

  • Provide accurate documentation for materials and testing.

  • Knowledge of track projects on Class 1 Freight or Passenger Railroad

  • Conduct constructability reviews and develop/analyze construction phasing from the railroad’s perspective.

  • Communicate effectively with contractors and railroad managers.

  • Read and understand construction and phasing plans.

  • Provide sound and economical solutions for track, subgrade, and drainage facility issues.

  • Conduct inspections through various methods as necessary.

  • Develop capital and maintenance work projects to mitigate railway risks.

  • Prioritize site interventions based on inspections, monitoring, and risk assessments.

  • Verify quantities of materials received or used and confirm distances and dimensions for installation accuracy.

  • Prepare daily and weekly reports as required.

  • Be proficient in civil, structures, and tracks.

  • Balance multiple responsibilities and concurrent activities.

  • Perform other duties as assigned or required to meet business needs.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Expertise in rail infrastructure, understanding customer needs and project goals to enhance service and safety.

  • Apply logical thought processes and organize resources to solve issues and meet commitments.

  • Make decisions and seize opportunities aligned with business objectives.

  • Partner effectively with others to achieve results and develop customer partnerships.

  • Proficiency with electronic communications (e-mail, text) and standard office applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).

    Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field, or 10 years of equivalent field experience.

  • Minimum of 10 years of railroad construction and/or civil experience.

    Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Experience in civil, track, and structure construction.

  • P.E. or ability to obtain P.E. within one year

  • Ability to assess jobsite risks and enforce contractor compliance with mitigation plans.

  • Ability to review and understand project-specific design plans.

  • Familiarity with Construction Project Schedules.

  • Proficiency with electronic communications including e-mail and text as well as standard office applications (i.e., Microsoft Office Suite)

    Additional Qualifications, Certifications, etc.:

  • OSHA 10 (preferably 30 hr).

  • Valid driver’s license.

  • Bilingual.

  • Previous railroad certifications.

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Manage Construction Administrators, Site Superintendents, and Foremen.

    Additional Information:

    Offered rate of compensation (California locations only) will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The salary range for this position is $149,760 - $194,084.80 .
